Movieguy Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 This is a question that has dogged me ever since I heard the stories, and saw the video of that "Mega Coaster" in Japan that had the elements of both Viper and Manhattan Express. Why are the TOGO death machines in America so rough and torturous compared to the TOGO rides in Japan, which seem to offer somewhat smoother rides? Could it be somehow related to the way they're built in the US? Does the firm itself oversee the construction, or is it all done by American construction crews? TOGO could have some very specific ways in which their coasters are put together, and we haven't quite mastered them yet. But that's just speculation from me.
BorisTF Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Japanese wash their coasters in Mr Sparkle every 10mins, saving wear....
rollermonkey Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 I suspect it may be as simple as TOGO is able to be more involved in the assembly and maintanence of the rides in Japan, but are more hands off when it comes to the TOGO's in the US.
socalMAN123 Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 IMO Japenese people hate our guts for putting them in captivity during World War II. No, I'm just kidding. The reason is probably just the construction crews not putting the ride together in the best ways. Or they hate the U.S. Either works. ---Brent
CycloneMan Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 It's Japan's revenge for Hiroshima and Nagasaky!
Canadmos Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Its not American or Japanese, but Skyrider at Pcw is pretty smooth.
DenDen Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 Japanese building codes are MUCH more strict than in the US. And companies are held more accountable for their products there. I'd just readily assume they cut costs to build coasters in the US.
WillMontu Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 From R&E's recent trips to Japan, I believe they did hit a few genuine "death machines" http://www.themeparkreview.com/japan2004/expoland1.htm
Movieguy Posted March 31, 2006 Author Posted March 31, 2006 Well I saw thw Japan-a-Mania DVD, so I know a few of them were death machines, but on the whole they seem smoother in Japan. Even those few rough TOGO's there probably don't even compare to the ultimate TOGO death machine, Manhattan Express.
