Chrissie Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Hey Guys, Here in the UK we have several low cost/no frills airlines. Just wondering if you guys have the same in the US? As some of you may know, Im off to Orlando for the Summer, but at the end of my CM programme, Im hoping to travel for a bit. The plans are so far to fly to New York and meet the Boyfriend but that is subject to change. Is there any good low cost airline that I could use? I really wanna get out of Orlando for at least a few days lol!
rollermonkey Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Southwest is the 'biggest' with pretty cheap fares to a decent portion of the country. They don't always go to the biggest airports, though. IE: TF Green in Rhode Island instead of Logan in Boston, but they don't skip all the big cities. There are others, but I can't remember the names right now. Just don't expect RyanAir 1 GBP fares! They aren't THAT cheap!
nemesis-storm Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 For our USA trip in June, We are using Jetblue ( http://www.jetblue.com From NYC to Richmond. There not Ryanair prices, more towards EasyJet Prices, but they were hell of a lot cheaper than say American or Continental Have a good trip Paul C
dj snow Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Southwest, JetBlueand AirTranare the big three. For the route you're considering, JetBlue is probably the best choice (they fly to both JFK and Newark airports in the NYC area). AirTran serves LaGuardia in NYC, but it isn't nonstop service to/from Florida. Southwest doesn't really serve NYC--the closest they get is Islip in Long Island. All three are fine carriers, so you shouldn't worry about quality of service on any of them. And the good news is that they tend to set the price for everyone--so you'll often find matching fares on other carriers. There's lots of competition in the Northeast-to-Florida routes, so you can usually find a reasonable deal.
CoasterFanatic Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 If you will be based out of Orlando, AirTran will be your new best friend.
ParkTrips Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 If you sign up for AirTran's frequent traveler program, something like 4 flights will get you a free one. I've never had a problem with them, and I've flown them about 15-20 times since they are based out of my hometown. Jet Blue looks to have the best planes though, in-seat TVs and such, but I've never flown so I can't tell ya for sure.
Rider117 Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 If you are going from Orlando to NY, try Spirit Airlines.
Chrissie Posted March 7, 2006 Author Posted March 7, 2006 Thanks guys! You have made my trip planning alot easier!
SharkTums Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Also it's important to note that all of our airlines are really messed up price wise! Check all of them, not just the low cost carriers and you may be surprised by fares you find!
Chrissie Posted March 7, 2006 Author Posted March 7, 2006 ^ Thanks Elissa! I just checked several of the "Bigger" airlines and they are about the same price. Chrissie " I guess Cheap-Ass Airlines is a British thing" Stevenson
