Twister II Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 I have 2 rats. I know you had RatTums, and his mansion cage. My question how did you keep it clean? It must of taken hours to clean, tubes, balls, wheels, cages, etc. What kind of litter did you use? Im using this stuff, it looks like crushed egg carton.
XII Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 I don't know much about fancy mansion cages and balls and stuff. But it takes me 10 min to clean my hamsters cage. I don't know how long for a hamster mansion though.
Thrillrider15 Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 The hamster cages that have all the plastic tubing, ect., are less sanitary than the ones with bars. I'm not sure why I said that.
SharkTums Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 It would take about 1.5 hours when we would clean the whole thing. We would clean out some areas on a daily basis (where he peed, ate, etc.) We recommend CareFresh Bedding. It's good stuff!
phazan Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 When I had my hamster I let him loose in his giant sphere thing so he could run around while I was cleaning his cage. I pretty much took the cage apart and hosed it off outside untill it was clean. It took me about 20 minutes.
coasterguy618 Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Get a cage with bars. They are much easier to clean.
Thrillrider15 Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 ^ It's true. But then, this could happen when you have a bar cage: http://video.search.yahoo.com/video/view?&h=105&w=140&type=msmedia&rurl=www.videovat.com%2Fvideos%2F561%2Fhamster-escape.aspx&vurl=http%3A%2F%2F216.227.212.230%2Fvideos%2F050929-hamster-escape-video.wmv&back=p%3Dhamster%2Bcage%26ei%3DUTF-8%26fr%3DFP-tab-vid-t%26cv%3Dg%26x%3Dwrt&turl=re2.mm-a1.yimg.com%2Fimage%2F1630150351&name=050929-%3Cb%3Ehamster%3C%2Fb%3E-escape-video.wmv&no=3&tt=11&p=hamster+cage&oid=7f26c97cb6ec3234&size=614.8kB&dur=26&src=p
BarryH Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 I had three mice in college (they were not blind). I kept them in a 10 gallon aquarium. I had to clean the cage every 2nd day or it would reek of pee! I had a gerbil that I cleaned the cage every week. Apparently, gerbils don't pee as much as mice.
Carnage Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 ^^ You should use your links differently so that it doesn't break the forum. Instead of "(url)linkaddress(/url)" use "(url=linkaddress)Text(/url)" Replace ('s with ['s Link
coasterguy618 Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 ^^^Actually that won't happen if you have small bars.
Twister II Posted February 27, 2006 Author Posted February 27, 2006 The reason why Im not using metal bars right now is because I have a ferret, who's cage is metal bars. And he scratches and scratches them all night. Sometimes its just to annoying to sleep. I don't need more noise when Im trying to sleep.
