metsfan11 Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Hey guys! I just found out that we are going to Cedar Point sometime in late August. Now I have a question about hotels. Our family is on a semi-strict budget and don't want to spend too much. We also want a hotel that can let us purchase our Cedar Point tickets in a package. Also, we won't have a car so something like walking distance or a shuttle to the park would be great. I know Hotel Breakers is a good choice. Is this the only one like it in the area or is there any other hotels that are like this? Thanks!!!
mb425 Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 I was not impressed by Hotel Breakers. It was a lot older, had an in the window a/c unit, and the quality just wasn't there for me. Plus, it was very expensive. Cedar Point also owns Breakers Express, Castaway Bay, and Sandcastle. I've stayed at Castaway Bay (when it was a Radisson) and the room was a lot better then those room we had at Hotel Breakers. As for tickets, i'm not sure about packages, but we did receive a discounted price for buying through the hotel. Whatever you do, have fun!
CoasterEricHP Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 I stayed at Sandcastle and Hotel Breakers on some family trips.. I guess Sandcastle in '01 and Breakers in '02, while my friends and I stayed at Breakers Express this past August. My favorite walking distance one was Sandcastle.. definately. Its a lot more quieter and the rooms were nicer too. The walks a little longer but no biggie. Breakers is nice, but way more crowded. You're almost in the park though which is nice. And Breakers Express was really nice! If you want to save money and dont mind driving to the park thats a good way to go too. I'd say if u want to save some cash, Breakers Express. But if you want to feel less rushed and be able to walk everywhere, Sandcastle.
coaster1 Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 As far as I know, Breakers Express and Castaway Bay don't have trams/shuttles to the park, heck Breakers Express doesn't even give free parking at the park most of the time. They are about 5 miles away. Your best bet is to stay at Breakers, Sandcastle Suites or Lighthouse Point since they are all on the point. Some of the other hotels MAY have transporation to the park, but Sandusky without a car is pretty hard to do anything.
Carnage Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 What kind of buget are you talking about? Breakers/Sandcastle/Lighthouse point are the only choices that you can walk to the park from. And I don't know of many hotels that offer shuttles. I can't think of any off hand to be honest. Breakers express definetly dose not have shuttles, though there is free parking if you get one of their packages. The problem is you're going to pay a premium for those walkable options. I wouldn't consider Breakers/Sandcastle to be the type of resorts that would work for someone with a strict buget. Might be better off to get a cheaper hotel and just rent a car. Even if you stay at one of the walkable resorts you'll have no option but to eat all meals at Cedar Point. You cannot walk across the causeway.
shepp Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Well, I wouldn't call Breakers Express "really nice," but it was thoroughly clean and comfy, in a bland lower-tier motel way. I stayed there slightly off-season a couple of summers ago, and got a package that did include parking at the park, as well as tickets, early entry, waterpark discount, and continental breakfast, all at a bargain price. While it may be possible to cobble a similar deal together staying off-property, I'd have a look at the packages available for your visit. It might be just as cheap to get a bargain rental car - you do have to get back and forth to wherever you stay, after all - and buy a Breakers Express package. Also, contact CP now for their planning package, including a booklet called something like (somebody help me out) Guide to the Point, that contains, or at least used to, a whole bunch of discount coupons. Oh, and if you're on a budget, check out the all-you-can-eat pizza joint by the causeway...
metsfan11 Posted February 7, 2006 Author Posted February 7, 2006 Thanks for all of the responses so far. I think we may stay at Breakers Express and rent a car, but not sure yet. Any other opinions would be appreciated as well. Thanks again!
Carnage Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 ^ I don't believe the 2006 guidebooks are available yet. At least they're not shipping yet. They typically start coming out in the spring I think. But good point none the less, make sure to get one at some point. It's free so it's not like you have anything to lose.
dougr Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 If you're reeeeally on a budget: Motel 6 Sandusky - Milan #4016 11406 US 250 North Milan, OH 44846 (419)499-8001 11.6 miles Map It Red Roof Inn Milan #643 11303 US 250 North Milan, OH 44846 (419) 499-4347 10.7 miles Map It Looks like the Red Roof is actually cheaper at the end of August.
ECZenith Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 I stayed at Breakers Express and I reccomend it highly. Nothing special, but nice rooms, nice pool. Gonna have to taxi to the park though, it's not really within reasonable walking distance.
CoasterFanatic Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 For the guidebooks, you can always try calling 1-800-Best-Fun (I think?)
