CoasterBill04 Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Robb or Elissa, I am going to DLP this weekend and was thinking of videotaping some of the attractions there. Therefore I ask this question. What attractions are you allowed to tape? I'm thinking of doing Space Mt, Indiana Jones, Big Thunder and RnRC. What are your thoughts? Thanks.
Dark Vampire Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 The disney rule is: no videotaping or flash photographs in all attractions. Sometimes you are lucky and they dont say anything about it, other cast members are asking that you put away your camera, it depends what cast member. So, just try it.
robbalvey Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 ^ See, our experience with Disney is completely the OPPOSITE. If anything, Disney seems to be the one park that tells you to take EVERYTHING with you. I think there have only been a couple of isolated instances where they have "suggested" we put the camera away so we don't lose it, and then we show them all the custom made straps we have for it and they'll be like "Oh, ok....that's not going anywhere!" We filmed like crazy on Rock N Roller coaster at Space Mountain and no one seemed to have an issue about it at all. --Robb
Mystery Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 I was standing in the que of BTM with my videocam in my hand, the cast member put me in the front row so I could take a good POV, without asking!
mcjaco Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 I think it really only applies to the shows (animatronic, dark ride, etc.) and anything like the movies they have (Soarin', any of the World Showcase movies). Those technically are all copyrighted, thus videotaping would violate the copyright. The problem is that they don't know what the videographer is going to do with them; is it for home entertainment or, are they going to sell the tapes? Again, violating the copyright. Second, flash photgraphy is just a major annoyance to the enjoyment of the other people on the ride and/or show. We've got video of Spaceship Earth, Journey into Imagination (all three versions), the minute the camera came out for American Adventure, they we're all over my Dad. Of course, that was a few weeks into EPCOT's opening, they may be more lax now. All though they still do warn not to film.
BarryH Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 I've only been to WDW and DLR, but the rule of thumb for Disney is that you can videotape everything except if a CM makes an annoucement not to. Usually, the annoucement will be very clear on what you can't videotape. In a lot of the dark and indoor rides (Haunted Mansion, Pirates, etc.), you can't use external video lighting or flash photography. Nightshot lights are kind of tricky. I use Nightshot for some of the darker dark rides, but under the CM's IR camera, a Nightshot light may look like a regular camera light. You might hear an annoucement to turn off your light if you're using Nightshot. Usually, most of the time, they allow Nightshot because it isn't distracting to other guests really (unless those guests have IR eyes or Nightshot cameras ).
Mr.Six Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Like Robb said, out of all the parks I've been to, the Disney ones are "by far" the most relaxed about it. (However) with that being said, I've heard a lot of stories of people being told to turn off the camera light on the dark attractions. _six
Cerberus Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 I had a great time getting footage at DLP during the off season. Maybe it's because there were now crowds making nuisances of themselves, but the staff were all in really good moods. I took the camera on everything, with no hassle whatsoever. In fact on Space Mountain, the platform staff women actually took the camera from me, lowered the restraint, and then handed it back to me with a smile once I'd squeezed my arms comfortable the bars. She also helpfully suggested I hold it flat against the car's bonnet, but I don't trust Vekoma's trackwork with having a direct shock path against my camera
mcjaco Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 We've never had problems taping any of the dark rides, it's the show type ones that they can get pretty ornary about. Most of our tapes came way back in the 80's (so I can relive my clothing faux pas all over again) when we literally had to carry the tape deck over your shoulder and, the camera was just as big. Trying to do a POV video with one of those on BTM or SM would have been insane.
martinb Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 I have took my vides camara on all this DLP coasters and like someone above said, they let me go to the front of them all some of them were a bit iffy on letting me take it on the R'N'R! But good luck! SM: Mission 2 ROCKS!!! i hope you get a good POV of it!
