Token Yankee Guy Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 So last night I went over to Staples by the Bangor Mall and bought a DVD-RW. Why? Because I believed it was to get with times and upgrade my PC and one of the things I wanted to upgrade was to get a drive that burns DVD's and CD-RWs. Thus Elminating my CD-RW and DVD-ROM drive which will be put to good use in my B*tch computer back home. Congratulations Don, your DVD's were the first to De-Virginize my DVD-RW. Of course when I finish watching one of the DVD's I notice you spelled my name wrong. My last name is Keough. It's the "Drugged up on Hydroxyzine thumbs up for it working" pose See, Windows detected the new DVD-RW Drive (H:) and I didn't have to install any software. Yes I got 9 (Ipod isn't plugged in which is the 9th) different drives ranging from the floppy to a memory card reader. Now that I got the jumper situation figured out, Windows properly booted up Oopsie, I forgot to set another jumper so that the hard drive can be recognized as the Master Now it's set to slave Stupid flash. To the left of the IDE connection (the big one) you can see the drives jumper. If you don't know what this is, it's a little thing that tells the drive to act as the primary device or slave device on either the Primary or Secondary IDE. Unscrewing the Drive Unscrewing the side of the case to troubleshoot That isn't a good sign when it's only detecting two of the drives and my external Hard Drive. When you see this the number one problem is probably the drive's Jumper Powering up the computer for the first attempt Putting in the screws to hold the drive in place Plugging the power cable into the DVD-RW Sliding in the drive Here am I re-organizing the IDE cables so I can get one to that will be long enough to plug into the new drive The inside of my computer, notice it's cluttered with the power supply cables. mmmmm, new DVD-RW Drive I have so many cables connected to the back of my computer ooo, this DVD-Rom also has light scribe which uses a special laser to etch a label for the CD directly on it.
robbalvey Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 Is this one of those that prints the label on the DVD in the drive? How well does that work? --Robb
Wes Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 Have you used the Lightscribe feature yet? I've been interested in it, but so far there's no real support on the Mac end (so I just bought a Sony external DVD-DL). Post some photos of a disc that's been lightscribed! EDIT: Damn you Robb, you beat me.
SLUSHIE Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 For got to check the jumper setting... what an amateur mistake to make. JK. Anyway I'm not sure what I think of the lightscribe thing. I think a sharpie is still your best friend.
DenDen Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 Robb... Litescribe requires special disks. What it does is burns a 2-dimensional hologram into the top side of the disk. It's cool to an extent, being that you're limited to non-color images. I got an Epson Photo R200 that prints directly on ink-jet printable CDs/DVDs. I posted a photo report on this way back when you were having site problems. Maybe I should do a new one, if you're interested?
PhishyBrewer Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 Admit it Craig... you bought it so you can FINALLY watch Don's videos. All because you lost the remote to your XBOX.
Token Yankee Guy Posted November 20, 2005 Author Posted November 20, 2005 ^ It isn't my X-Box and we never had a remote since we got the PS2. As for the light scribing feature, I haven't used it yet since I didn't buy the special DVD's for it
PhishyBrewer Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 I'm just teasing Craig Maybe I should go make some post on SFNE.com

Hattuchili Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 Hey Craig, nice photo TR! Good to see you have a DVD-RW, now! Howeve, where is the identity band on your right hand for? Just curious! --Sören
ShoubraStreet74 Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 I got one about a year ago, but it's only 8x and is only single layer . I read in PC Magazine about the lightscribe feature but have yet to see it or use it, have you tried it yet? Another question, what skin are you using with windows? It looks very different and the icons look really cool.
Teddymonster Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 Hey Craig, nice photo TR! Good to see you have a DVD-RW, now! Howeve, where is the identity band on your right hand for? Just curious! --Sören Yeah, since you said you were hopped up on Hydroxyzine, I'm assuming you went to a health clinic/ER for an allergic reaction?
Token Yankee Guy Posted November 20, 2005 Author Posted November 20, 2005 Hey Craig, nice photo TR! Good to see you have a DVD-RW, now! Howeve, where is the identity band on your right hand for? Just curious! --Sören I got it when I went to the EMMC (Eastern Maine Medical Center) Walk-In Clinic to get my allergic reaction checked out Another question, what skin are you using with windows? It looks very different and the icons look really cool. I'm using a Windows Vista skin theme I got off Wincustomize.com and I forgot what theme the icons are
Teddymonster Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 ^^I knew that was a Vista skin! God, I'm such a loser...
deathmole Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I see an Microstar International motherboard - good man I say, good man! I think I've got you beat: Yeah, you kicked my ass: Two hard drive's Raid 0, CD / RW DVD ROM (combo drive) and a floppy drive, used only to install the RAID driver's - I son't know why it's still in the machine! :? :?
Token Yankee Guy Posted November 22, 2005 Author Posted November 22, 2005 Is this one of those that prints the label on the DVD in the drive? How well does that work? --Robb I forgot to respond earlier to Robb's question. I dunno. It's sorta new technology since they don't even sell the special DVD's for it in the stores yet. 2006 is when you'll find them on the shelves. But you can buy them online. When I get some, I'll let you know.
