PhishyBrewer Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 So as some of you might know, I was involved in an accident at work. What I ended up doing was smashing my left ring finger in between a railcar and a fork truck. Because of what happened, the company I work for decided to suspended me for 2 weeks. Well I didn’t like that, and either did the Union. After taking the argument through a series of steps, is was lowered to 1 week. Well I still didn’t feel like I should of been suspended, so the Union went to bat for me again. This time, the company said if I take this any further, they will push for 2 weeks again. There final offer was 3 days off with out pay. So today I started my suspension today. And if you were a bitter employee like me… what would you do? I helped out the folks at Sam Adams. I was eating lunch at the bar at TGIFriday’s when this beautiful looking girl comes in and sits right next to me. She had two stacks of coasters labeled wit the Sam Adams logo. So I asked her if she was a rep for a beer distributor. Turns out she works for Sam Adams and was checking out the markets here in Northern California. We started talking… about beer of course. And I told her I was a brewer for Anheuser-Busch. She said that was cool and offered me to taste some Sam Adams products. I ended up tasting like 5 different beers. When it came time me to try the Sam Adams Lager, the taste was off. She then tasted it also, and agreed that the taste was off. What it was is that the beers lines haven’t been cleaned in such a long time, they started to build up with nasty old yeasty deposits. She ended up getting it all fixed up and fresh Sam Adams was flowing once again at TGIFriday’s… thanks to me. Those folks at Sam Adams sure are nice!
DerekRx Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Wally, you just made me shed a tear. Not because you got suspended, but because you saved Sam Adams from a bad rap at that TGIFridays. Sam is probably my favorite mainstream beer. If the chick looked anything like the rep from Tampa (as seen in the Orlando Epcot PTR) Sam has got some good marketing department
PhishyBrewer Posted November 18, 2005 Author Posted November 18, 2005 I had my camera on me, but I didn't want to be a total nerd and ask "Can I take your picture for my trip report on Theme Park Review?" This girl was hot!!! Man... I love not having a wedding ring anymore! Love you Karen
Wes Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 How can they suspend you for getting hurt? Isn't that like, illegal?
PhishyBrewer Posted November 18, 2005 Author Posted November 18, 2005 ^It's Anheuser-Busch... they rule the world... duh!
memphish Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 ^Of terrible beer. No offense to your brewin' skillz I always figured those 'beer audit' commercials were just a ad-ploy. Pretty cool that they actually do check lines and such.
PhishyBrewer Posted November 18, 2005 Author Posted November 18, 2005 ^In addition to brewing Budweiser, Bud Light, Natual Light, Busch and Busch Light, at the Fairfield brewery, were going to start brewing Organic Budweiser and Natrual Ice. Big wipty-do. I need to turn in my resume to Sierra Nevada.
Erik Johnson Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Maybe its time to wear that other shirt. They used to have a lounge as well, wow Old Mil on tap........shutter! Im sure these lines need some cleaning. I got to help out at a liquor store today while you got to have fun. Mmmmm Sam Adams Hee hee hee
PhishyBrewer Posted November 18, 2005 Author Posted November 18, 2005 Derek was right about that Sam Adams girl... God Damn!!!!
DerekRx Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 If you get a job at Sierra Nevada or Sam Adams, I'll be your best friend, Wally. Right now all this talk about TGIFridays and Sam Adams has me craving a Black and Sam. Guinness and Sam Adams Boston Lager, a Fridays classic. If only they'd make this into a glaze instead of all that Jack Daniels stuff
cfc Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Sam Adams--a brewer and a patriot--salutes you, Wally. Speaking of Busch's reign of terror and abuse of hops, the company started posting the "Great American Beer Company Challenge" in their men's rooms at BGW and Water Country USA (and, I presume, their other parks). At the beginning of the season, many of these signs were attacks on SOUTH AFRICAN-OWNED Miller Brewing, but most of those signs mysteriously disappeared as the summer wore on. Now they mostly tout the excellence of pure Bud . . . Yep, Busch will get you coming and going. Yes, I just couldn't resist getting a picture of this. Who thought stopping to take a leak could be so educational? How about posting the sports page next time, like they do at Chili's?
PhishyBrewer Posted November 18, 2005 Author Posted November 18, 2005 Actually... SAB Miller started the attack ads. This ploy was simply a rebuttle to the attacks. A-B mailed us stacks of flyers like the one you have posted, but in postcard form, and wanted us to hand them out while we visit our favorite establishment. Screw that... in the recycle bin they went. Don't get me wrong, working for A-B has a lot of great perks. But when it comes to the poltics of the job, that's what I don't like. If was a very different world for me from being managment at SeaWorld to becoming a Union employee and being a brewer. I think my time with A-B is coming to an end... I need something more than just beer.
DenDen Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 I never liked AB beers, the lights taste so watery, and everything else tastes like chewing on aluminum foil from the bottom of a used roast pan!
cfc Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 ^^ Thanks for the extra insight, Wally. I don't follow the politics of beer very closely. Busch waved the flag quite a bit at BGW last summer--an orgy of American patriotism in a European themed park. And yet, Great America has a water park with an Australian theme. It's a wacky world.
PhishyBrewer Posted November 18, 2005 Author Posted November 18, 2005 ^Yeah... if you ever have a question about what the hell A-B is doing, you can ask me. Because I probably got pulled from job to go to a stupid meeting about it. ***NEWS: Ambassadors of Quality memebers just had there cards loaded up with $50 for the Holidays. Hit up an A-B employee for FREE Beer***
memphish Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Hitting you up my good sir. You're the only one I know working for them.
PhishyBrewer Posted November 18, 2005 Author Posted November 18, 2005 If you make it out for CoasterMania next year, I'll be sure to bring the card with me. Party on June 2nd at the TGIFriday's on the beach... as usually.
disneygurlz2s Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 I haven't been around here much the past few weeks.... glad to know that you've been protecting our beer loving public!!! Hope the finger's doing OK. Shari
PhishyBrewer Posted November 19, 2005 Author Posted November 19, 2005 ^I was just wondering where you were at today.
disneygurlz2s Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 ^Well, it's been kind of a combination of things.... My office decided to cut back the hours that the phones are on, so those of us who work 4/10s have taken on some additional responsibilites (mine is new patient packets-which has proven to be a BIG mistake!) to do during the time the phones are not on, as a way to get our hours in. Plus, we got a new phone system put in, and I now get a larger volume of calls than I had been. Consequently, my "down time" during which I surfed the net has been greatly reduced. Second, I have a side business, direct sales for a company called Tastefully Simple (actually, they have a product I want to send you-I'll have to get your mailing address) and this is my busy season with that. Finally, just my family and a lot going on there. Hubby and I are trying to deal with financial issues, Sammi takes dance twice a week and is also dancing in a Christmas show the studio does, and my mom retired last month at the age of 80!! So, I just have been super busy. So, that's what I've been up to. Busy girl am I!!! Shari
PhishyBrewer Posted November 19, 2005 Author Posted November 19, 2005 ^Wow! I'm only having one kid and plan on living as far away from my parents as possible. 80 years old... wow! Me retiring at 51 doesn't look so bad after all.
disneygurlz2s Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 ^lol I just have a crazy life.... crazier than I thought I would, I guess. I love my mom to death and would be lost without her for many reasons, but boy! is it tough when they get old!! I'm just not ready for her to be a "little old lady". Shari
Louise Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 ^ It's nice to see you back Shari, I always enjoyed reading your posts. Hope everything gets a bit calmer for you soon! -Lou
