Libertyland - Memphis, TN may be closing

Recommended Posts

Libertyland may be closing. Libertyland is operated by the Mid-South Fair organization, a non-profit group. The finance committee is rumored to make a recommendation to close the park, as the revenues have been steadily declining. Nothing is concrete, but this is what was just on the news tonight.

Personally, I could see them closing the park, and only operating it during the midsouth fair. The park sits on the fairgrounds, with the fairs midway set up in Libertyland's parking lot. I don't see them tearing the park down as it would seem pointless to try and develop on the land until our Coliseum is torn down.

No no no no no...I'm killing parks left and right this season!!! This is now the FOURTH park that was on my plan for next year that may not be there!!! I'd originally planned on Astroworld and Six Flags New Orleans...both of those are toast now. And Williams Grove is still tentatively on the roster for next year if I haven't killed it yet. And just when I decide to go to Libertyland on my birthday next year...IT MAY CLOSE TOO!!!! What is wrong with me?!?! Maybe I should just cancel that trip to Knoebels I have planned!

It still serves a purpose, hosting small concerts and community events, but could require millions of dollars to modernize and comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Are you sh**ing me? Please tell me the disabilities act isn't what will deliver the final blow...

With 3 of the Tennesse Parks closed (First Opryland, then Nashville Valley Amusement Park, and now Libertyland) the chance of getting that new Thrillopolis park in Nashville is getting even greater! But if the plans for Thrillopolis are scrapped, the only TN park left will be Dollywood, and it's 4 hours away .
