SixFlagsAstroworld
1978 So one day, I was just sitting in my office minding my own business when my coworker brought me a newspaper telling me that I should read the front page. It read: NEW THEME PARK OPENS IN CHATTANOOGA! Yesterday on June 17th 1978, The newest theme park in Tennessee: Cypress Adventures has opened to the public! Home to 2 family coasters and rides fun for the whole family! People having fun on the park's signature ride: Runaway Express Excited, I made plans to visit Cypress Adventures next weekend on the 24th. I couldn't believe that a theme park opened just 15 minutes away from where I lived! I loved theme parks, and I always visited Silver Dollar City in Tennessee and Opryland, but both parks were about 2 hours away. Flash forward to June 24th, I stepped into Cypress Adventures for the first time. It was a nice park! I'm here! This park's landscaping is beautiful! I should mention that this park doesn't have a "main street" like most parks do Decided to take the path on the right and the first ride I encountered was Gunslinger. The line was pretty long for it. I wasn't lying about the line. I was surprised when I saw this park has a trokia! I actually love these rides! One of the 2 stops for the train which circles the park. Time for me to check out the biggest (bigger than the kiddie coaster) coaster at the park: Runaway Express! The line was posted at a 3 hour wait! Runaway Express really uses its terrain well, and you can't even see most of the layout! This is the most of the layout you'll see from the path. I wasn't allowed to bring my camera on the ride, but it followed the terrain nicely with a surprise final drop that no one can see coming. It seemed a lot steeper than it looked. Themed eating area Here' the park's log flume: Cypress Plunge I like the wheel you can see from the queue Basically the ride sits on a hill, you go up the lift and then just go around in random turns, until the final drop, where you forget you're on a hill, so you don't see how big the drop is until you're on it! The park's observation tower: Skyrama It's pretty tall and it provides some awesome views! Big Wheel Here's the park's fantasy section. It was very crowded I wonder what's inside this mysterious castle styled building Castle Crash bumper cars! Cypress Adventure's kiddie coaster, Dragon run was pretty popular with the kids but the carousel did not have that much attention, surprisingly Wild Tea Party Fantasy Fling I decided to ride the train before I left and I'm glad I did! It goes through part of Runaway Express's course! Here's the big final drop I was talking about! random helix On my way out, I picked up a postcard that showed the park from above. I can't wait to see what this park brings in the future! Edited July 19, 2020 by SixFlagsAstroworld
SixFlagsAstroworld
October 1978 I decided to visit Cypress Adventures one last time before the season ended. I did not intend to make a trip report, but I discovered something new that I just had to take photos of and share: I'm here one last time before the end of the 1978 season! The usual lake. Wait... Somethings different... First thing I did was take a ride on Skyrama just for a shot of what appears to be a new coaster being built! I snuck my camera onto Cypress Plunge just so I could take a picture of this new coaster! and this is a zoom shot of the coaster I took over the construction walls that was blocking off the path to the coaster. It appears to be an arrow coaster. A corkscrew model perhaps? The park did state that they're announcing something in 2 days, so we'll just have to wait and see... SixFlagsAstroworld
NEW FOR 1979! Cypress Adventures introduces its first looping roller coaster: TWISTER where you go upside down not once, but TWICE! Seek shelter and hang on! a wild twister is making its way in 1979, sending you down a 62 ft drop through 2 corkscrew inversions and around a helix before the storm ends! See you next year! SixFlagsAstroworld
April 1979 Today is the official public opening of Cypress Adventure's new coaster, Twister! I honestly did not expect a new coaster to open on the 2nd season of operation. The owners are really investing in this park! Without further ado, here is my trip report of Twister's opening day: I decided to check on the Runaway Express to see if Twister took away the crowds, but it didn't surprisingly! Quick ride on Rodeo since it was a 10 minute wait hmm I wonder where this crowd is heading to? Ooo what is that up ahead? Twister! The line was posted at 3 hours long But Twister flys right above out heads to keep us entertained! This is my favorite shot Up the lift it goes I didn't take this shot just to show that I got the front row, but to also to show the perfectly framed shot of Cypress Plunge's drop from the exit Well, it was your basic Arrow corkscrew, but it actually had a helix at the end of the ride, which I think makes this particular model unique Rode the train to prove that this corkscrew had a helix at the end of the ride And here's Twister's train! And I'm ending this report with a shot of Twister from Skyrama! See you next time!
SixFlagsAstroworld
October 1979 Wanted to make a quick trip report before the off season, and I noticed something new! Artsy Gunslinger shot Quick ride on Runaway Express I noticed this new sign added before the final drop The log flume was open for some reason, so I decided why not another artsy shot Shot of Twister from the Big Wheel Decided to get the Dragon Run credit Shot of the entrance from the lake What's this? A new ride is coming next year! Anyone got any guesses for what it is? See you next time!
DoinItForTheFame
I've got NO guesses on the new coaster... But what ever it is, I look forward to seeing it come together!! I LOVE the Twister sign. It looks amazing! Great job. I didn't take this shot just to show that I got the front row, but to also to show the perfectly framed shot of Cypress Plunge's drop from the exit Okay, that's freaking awesome the way it frames Cypress Plunge's drop. Nice touch. Can't wait to see more.

SixFlagsAstroworld
April 1980 Well, It's the start of the 3rd season for Cypress Adventures, I purchased a new camera sometime in February and I wanted to try it out here! While I was there, I noticed a few things added to the park this visit. New for this year was Octopus, a thrilling flat ride which is fun for the whole family! It isn't ready to open yet (hence the blocked off entrance in the first photo), but I look forward to riding it later this year! Fantasy Fling from the entrance to Octopus Random Fantasy Village building A new (blocked off) Bridge was built near the Fantasy Village train station. I believe they are planning on expanding the park within the next 2-3 years! I heard that the Castle Crash bumper cars may be removed at the end of the year to make way for a new ride So I decided to take one last ride on it. It really does have a "temporary" feel to it, like the ride was built, but the building was meant for something else. Castle Crash exit Someone should make this photo a postcard for the park. (Heck, the park should hire me for postcard photos!) Twister is always worth the wait! And I ended my day with a ride on the still popular Runaway Express! See you when Octopus opens! JG-77
I love the TR-styled updates! The park looks great! I should really read the games forum more...
SixFlagsAstroworld
July 1980 Quick update on this park, I just can't get enough! Surprisingly, a month after Octopus opened, it lost its "new ride" popularity Close look at the cars The rumors are true, Castle Crash was closed. I wonder what they will put in its place Another postcard worthy shot Up the lift it goes There was hardly a line for Runaway Express, so I caught a ride on it on the way out! SixFlagsAstroworld
Park Expansion for 1981! Fantasy Village will be renamed into Medieval Times where there will be 2 sections of the area: The Marketplace Village (Fantasy Village) and The Castle (new expansion). The Castle will feature A sit down restaurant called Joe's Tavern and a new scrambler ride named Joust! The Castle concept art
SixFlagsAstroworld
June 1981 Checking out the new Castle expansion to Fantas- I mean Medieval Times. Here's my report from today. I'm backkkk! First thing you see when you enter Long path to Medieval Times Octopus was running a pretty wild program compared to last year Some activity around the old Castle Crash ride. This arch wasn't here before Some additional theme pieces added to the queue. I really wonder what they're doing here. Only time will tell I guess Dragon Run's ride program was allowing 2 laps this time instead of one. It just made the line longer in my opinion New path now unblocked! Cool shot of the rides here New Castle expansion The owners of Cypress Adventures is really planning ahead with future additions! Joe's Tavern smells REALLY good here! I had a turkey leg here which was the best turkey leg I've ever had in my life! Cool shot of Skyrama Here's the new ride: Joust It's just your average scrambler ride, but it's really fun! Skyrama has the longest line I've ever seen for that ride today That's all! Until next time!

SixFlagsAstroworld
Coming in October 1981! Originally a 1982 addition, Cypress Adventure's Owners, Max and Rolfe Geffrey, decided it would be more fitting to open their new ride, Castle of Horror, early in October, which is also the last month of the season. Replacing the bumper cars attraction, Castle Crash, Castle of Horror will take you through an abandoned castle where your worst fear lives. Do you dare ride? SixFlagsAstroworld
Happy Halloween everyone! October 31st 1981 Well they opened their 1982 addition a little early. The former Castle Crash bumper cars has been transformed into a haunted house dark ride. Let's check it out shall we? I honestly never seen the park THIS crowded! Everyone wants to ride Castle of Horror! Line is posted to be at 265 minutes. Gonna be here a while... They reused the Castle Crash queue. It's just covered now I finally made it to the station! Spooky books Purple fog effect Oh hell no! I spent so much time in that queue that it's already night! Decided to take a night ride on Twister before I left! See you in 1982! SixFlagsAstroworld
March 1982 First day of operation for the 1982 season! The off season felt like it took forever, Here's my trip report: They updated the entrance sign No one cares that much about octopus... I stopped to get a smoothie and this guy was awesome! He's very friendly! I'm starting to think Dragon Run is too popular Also I should mention that it was VERY crowded today I think I'll skip Castle of Horror due to the long line... I decided to ride skyrama since I haven't been on it in a while hmm Time for Twister! Starting to get dark out now Beautiful sunset Night ride on Runaway Express! SixFlagsAstroworld
June 1982 Just a small report, but a major coaster is being built! I can't wait to ride it when it opens! Cypress Plunge is always a must on a hot day Decided to ride the 2nd level of the carousel So much has been built since last time! The soon to be signature coaster of the park peeking through the trees! A random but nice shot "Announcement in August" I'll be there! And I'm ending the report with a picture of Joust. See you during the announcement in August!
BlazingEmpireHD
Really nice update. I am looking forward to the new roller coaster, and the future updates. Keep up the great work!
SixFlagsAstroworld
August 1982 Announcement for Cypress Adventure's new coaster happened today! I made sure to show up early so I can witness the announcement up close. They announced the new coaster's name and showed off a few concept art of the coaster itself, but not the layout. The owners explains about how excited they are to announce the new coaster! There was a lot of confetti as they revealed the name of the coaster Excalibur, opening in 1983! Concept art of the first drop This coaster will feature a trick track!
SixFlagsAstroworld
April 1983 Well Excalibur has been open for 2 weeks now, but I wasn't able to get there until today due to my job. My thoughts on Excalibur: Awesome! The coaster has some great pops of airtime, especially since it's nothing but airtime hill after airtime hill. The trick track is kind of a unique element, but it doesn't add much to the experience. I highly recommend riding Excalibur in the back row! Here's my report: Octopus is closed off and has its signage removed. I wonder where this crowd is heading to No more walls blocking off the Excalibur section! Excalibur's entrance You can only see the lift from the queue This photo shows how long the line is Excalibur's train You can see most of the layout in this shot the trick track section I decided to check if Excalibur affected the other coasters popularity, Twister's line has gotten a bit shorter, but it's still a popular ride Runaway Express is still very popular! Makes sense since this is the only coaster that families can enjoy due to the 42" height. Excalibur and Twister are both 48" rides. Ending this report on this shot of Excalibur. I'll be waiting for the back row now.
DoinItForTheFame
Nice update. I wonder what is going on with Octopus? I'm betting it's being removed for a new ride...
SixFlagsAstroworld
July 1983 I'm starting to hear rumors that Cypress Adventures is starting to do poorly financially and they closed some rides to save some money. I decided to check out the park to see what has changed. Octopus and its queue was removed. On my way to grab some lunch at Joe's Tavern, I saw that they're teasing a 1984 addition. I don't know if they are making a good choice to push a new addition for next year, I guess we'll see soon. I think I'll skip Excalibur this trip... Big Wheel was closed Runaway Express just reopened after a breakdown, so I took advantage of the empty line Rodeo was also closed. Rode Gunslinger before leaving. See you next time
