Erik Johnson
Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom 1974. Check out the pictures. The original Tomorrowland. Look carefully and you can actually see Space Mountain's finished tower a full year before it opened. There is also a construction crane on the far right of the photo. My folks at the Magic Kingdom. Since I was only 1, I did not get invited. Another old style Disney parade. Its the Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki room. The old mill by Tom Sawyer's island. Have you noticed the lack of strollers in this Photo TR? More castle pictures. Check out the lack of trees (as well as no Big Thunder Mountain Railroad) around the Haunted Mansion. The boat is getting around a 4-6 months referb very soon. I believe it will be it's first since the park has opened. The castle in its full glory. I still prefer the original style instead of all the stuff they seem to put on it every few years. The animal shrubs are always kinda cool. I am not sure if this elephant is still standing. pianojohn
WOW! Those pics are great, and they remind me of my first visit to the Magic Kingdom in 1979. It seemed sooooooo magical back then.
Captain Jack
The park was only THREE YEARS OLD...awesome yet scary pics (Space Mtn being built, Space Mtn is now a word families across the world recognize) The thing I can't stand is how Walt bought all those acres in Orlando so he could isolate his new "Magic Kingdom" as far from hotels, highways, etc. as he could...and now Eisner/Iger, HOTEL, HOTEL, UNFINISHED THEME PARK, another hotel you say...PASS! Walt wanted isolation for his Florida venue as the unisolation of Disneyland angered him...back in '74, you drove through woods to the Ticket and Transportation Center and when you arrived you had forgotton the "city-like" hustle and bustle and had hit isolated magic. Now, WDW is like a city...traffic, highways, McDonalds's, etc. Amazing how PROFIT prevails over the better good of FANTASY, MAGIC, and IMAGERY. ***end rant***
