--Robb "Might not be as fast or as high, but does that REALLY matter?" Alvey

So true... I guess my wishlist for within the next three years would be a *complete* coaster.

Since when are roller coasters supposed to have a point? If they do have a point it is to lose you mind and have fun which you just said seem fun.

I've been thinking of this statement, and I was reminded of something.

This is taken from a B&M patent application, for the floorless rollercoaster, where the have to explain the use for their invention. They touch upon specifics in other portions, but this part simply explains "the point" of rollercoasters in general.

It's probably my favorite amuesment-park related quote ever:

The ingredient, albeit definitely subjective, which constitutes the true aim of the roller coasters is to provide the passengers with something different, to offer them an experience and sensations which are out of the ordinary.

From the point of view of these sensations, each passenger probably experiences a different sensation, and, on the assumption that the same passenger goes all over the circuit several times, it is also probable that he will not undergo the same experience twice over.

The enormous success of the roller coaster among the public is due to the fact that the cocktail of sensations is as inevitable as it is changeable, but it changes nothing in the fact that this cocktail is always deliciously explosive.

Among the sensations or emotions which may be mentioned there are, clearly, the exhilaration of the speed, the vertigo, the acceleration, the loss of orientation, the feeling of flying and of hurtling through space, but there is also the sense of risk and of its infinite subordinate emotions, the whole range of fears, mental or irrational, and the parallel range of various degrees of satisfaction of having conquered one's fear for some or of having overcome one's apprehension for others.

It is true that these elements are less technical, but they are fundamental, because every technique employed is not an end in itself; the ultimate aim of the technique is, and remains, to create these emotions, to emphasise them, and to cause new expressions of these emotions to be borne of the imagination; in brief, to render the cocktail more attractive and still more explosive.

I especially love the last paragraph!

I have been to both parks and ill agree CP has a better atmosphere overall than SFMM but if you look at just coasters SFMM has better coasters overall. Just list them side by side and see what you prefer. CP isnt a thrill park its more of a family park now. Just look at how many of their rides have inversions. Now look at SFMM its a thrill park. Nothing more.

Just a few silly comments in here...

Millennium Force was the most boring hyper (or giga, or whatever stupid marketing tag they wanna use) coaster I've ever ridden

Mantis, was the most painful standup I've ever ridden - and yes, I've ridden Togo standups.

The best coasters at Cedar Point are some of their smaller ones, Blue Streak and Gemini; the only reason my wife and I enjoyed CP so much was the non-coaster rides - which they've recently started to slide on...

SFMM doesn't have that great of a collection of coasters, either.

CP has had, what, 3 years of declining attendance?

If had to choose between the two, I'd find a new hobby

I Love Cedar Point Like I Love Most Amusment/Theme Parks, including Six Flags Magic Mountain. And i'm not one to dwell on how fast a coaster is or how tall a coaster is because being the biggest and the fastest is not what makes a coaster in my opinion. While I Like Cedar Point more than Six Flags Magic Mountain, they both have great coasters and some that make you say what the f**k? While I like Scream! it's Location is garbage. A Parking lot? Riiiiight. Looks like they juast said F**k it and plopped it right there. Top Thrill Dragster is ok, but like most people have already said it was over-hyped. It's pretty tame to Storm Runner in my opinion. I Love CP's Mantis, Raptor, Millennium Force, Mean Streak & Iron Dragon, for the rest, there are ok Imo. I love SFMM's X, Scream!, Batman, Riddler, Goliath & Colouss, the rest are ok..Both Parks are fun and have a few less-popular rides. Truth of the matter, I think Six Flags Great Adventure is a little better than both. How you like them apples??
