Retro video of WDW 25th Anniversary year

Ok here is my first ever park video.

 

I made it in January 1998. We came over for the end of the 25th anniversary of WDW, the year they made the castle in to a fairy cake.

 

Hope it brings back memories for some people.

Since when WDW have a skyride? Good video though.

They always did have one, I am not sure how long ago they took it down though.

The Skyway from Fantasyland to Tomorrowland at WDW left the park in 1998, and the loading building and area became a stroller parking area next to IASW in 1999.

 

Trick to remembering that (if you desire to remember it?) is that in 1994 Disneyland lost its Skyway while WDW lost 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, its submarine voyage-esque attraction. In 1998, what happened in 1994 flip-flopped...Disneyland lost its Submarine Voyage as WDW lost its Skyway.

 

PS-You said you made the video in 1998, however the 25th Anniversary was 1996 (1971+25=1996), although they did "milk" the anniversary a little bit into 1997 (Disney likes to abuse their Anniversaries). The 1996 date of video would justify the definite fact that the Skyway was removed in 1998, as saying the video was made in 1998 undoes the KNOWN fact that the Skyway got the boot. (unless it was 1996 video that you just finally put together two years later?)

It was definately 1998 when I filmed the video. also i am pretty sure the 25th anniversary ran from october 1996 to the end of january 1998. I was in florida in january 97 but didn't go to disney, so I went back the following jan to catch it before they stopped it and skyways was still open in january 98 so maybe they closed it when they put the castle back to its original version after the anniversary celebrations.

I only got to ride the Skyway once. It was during the anniversary. I got up close and personal with that big, ugly cake...

Snopes.com lists WDW Skyway closed in November 1999.

And the supports were there until late 2000/early 2001.

 

To my knowledge, The Fantasyland station didn't become stoller parking till at least 2003 or so. I remember the area between Peter Pan and IASW being seriously congested well after the removal of the skyride.

Ooh, very nice video! I like it so see that old stuff from some parks! However, good music choice for your video!
