TheHalonSystem
The only time I've ever been asked to remove my glasses was on Xcelerator at Knott's Berry Farm, and that was right after the Intamin cable incident, and the park was simply reacting to that. That's my experience. I would've thought that after that incident they'd be more chill about that because it could keep the materials from flying into your eyes but then again it might just make it worse by shattering the glasses. And did they let you go on any other rides at KBF with your glasses?

And did they let you go on any other rides at KBF with your glasses? Yeah, you would think that some polycarbonate in front of your eyes would be better than nothing at all in case of flying debris. However, that was not the case. This was back in 2010, however, so rules might have changed. I was able to wear my glasses on all the other rides. aCoasterStory
I always wear a strap, even at water parks, and I've never had an issue with them coming loose. I do sometimes encounter rides where they want me to remove my glasses, but when I tell/show them I have a strap, they're fine. It's rare to find a ride that they won't let you ride even with a strap (mostly just the occasional water slide).
Lareson
Even though I've ridden coasters without my glasses strap and my glasses stayed on, when I'm visiting other parks, a strap is a must for me. I used to have an a cheap $3 elastic one that kind of pushed my glasses into my face, but I dealt with it while I had it since I'm not a fan of the loose ones Cedar Point offers. When I went down to Busch Gardens Tampa recently, I didn't have my strap, but I did end up finding a much better adjustable one at a Walgreens from Cablz. I really liked it because I didn't even notice I had it on the whole day! Was a bit pricey, but if I keep track of it, it should last me forever. Here's the one I got, but I'm sure you can find it cheaper online somewhere. http://www.cablz.com/store/product.php?id_product=13 And as someone who has worked in the industry, please, use a glasses strap if you have glasses or sunglasses that are kind of loose and expensive. Was almost a daily occurrence of someone losing very expensive glasses because they were knocked off during the ride.
TheHalonSystem
Oh certainly. That's why I made this thread. I actually learned that lesson when I was five which is why I always removed them but I wanted to try a strap this time but I wanted to make sure it was worth it first. Lareson
I also used to take my glasses off for a ride before I got a strap, but I found the ride much more enjoyable with my glasses when I'm able to have depth and see what's going on, rather than everything being a fuzzy, blurry mess and only able to focus on what's 5 ft in front of my face. I haven't had any problems with ride ops requesting to remove my glasses with a strap on. I've learned my lesson this past summer riding Vortex at Kings Island, where my glasses were knocked off because my head hit the back of the seat because I didn't have one at that time. But yes, having a nice snug glasses strap on is highly recommended for glasses wearers.
rctneil
I too have a sports strap for my glasses and it works fine. I purchased it from a company called NexStraps and it's great. Each time I ride a ride if someone asks me to remove my glasses then i'll inform them about the strap and if they don't agree with it then I just take my glasses off totally. Not a big deal, I can manage. Saying that I have not had to do so in quite a while.
PVA62
I've never had a problem with using straps. The only ride that I thought my glasses would fall off with a strap was front row of Top Thrill Dragster, other than that I've had no issues. FeelTheFORCE
I've been using a strap for about a decade with no problems. My glasses were about $600 and I never think twice. Some of the parks I've been to while using it are CP, CW, KI, KD, Kennywood, Hershey, IOA/USO, SFMM, BGT, etc. You'll be fine!
TheHalonSystem
Don't worry about looking ridiculous. Glasses straps carry mad $wagger. You can rock that look. Even on girls?
