I believe it is for that^ and that, as seen lately, wooden coasters can get stuck at unusual places so when you have to get off the train in these locations you won't be able to fall off of the side, I mean if you think of a wooden coaster without handrails, you kind of get the picture why they do have them.

With a wooden rollercoaster you have to go through the ride and check every bolt, beam, etc, every day, replacing them as nessecary. Without a catwalk all the way around the course it would be a complete pain, and without handrails it would be dangerous.

All of the above apply.

 

Safety for maintenance, evac guest and any reason someone would have to walk to any section of track on the course.

 

Having walked up Megazeph lift quite a few times and trying not to touch the handrail due to splinters, I certainly wouldn't try to touch it on a moving train.

 

Besides, you really should not do that.

but you know that.
