larrygator Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 I don't recall seeing this mentioned before. The article says the park is opening this year. Although it is possible tat the amusement is not opening this year, only the cultural part of the complex. http://www.thanhniennews.com/index/pages/20140209-asia-park-in-central-vietnam-to-operate-this-year.aspx New Asian theme park to open in central Vietnam this year Last updated: Sunday, February 09, 2014 15:00 The first stage of the Asia Park theme park in the central city of Da Nang will be put into operation this year, its main contractor Vietnam-based Sun Group Corporation has announced. Sun Group’s general director Dang Minh Truong said the park was designed by world-renowned American architect Bill Bensley and has been estimated to cost around VND4 trillion (US$189.6 million). The 88-hectare park is located at Hoa Cuong Bac Ward in Hai Chau District, news website Vietnamplus reported. Once completed, the park is expected to welcome about 2.5 million visitors each year, said Truong. The Asia Park includes a culture park, an amusement park, a multi-functional centre and a parking lot. The culture park will showcase replicas of famous architectural works and typical landscapes from nine Asian countries including Japan, India, Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand, South Korea, China, Nepal and Vietnam. The amusement park includes a roller coaster with a height of 125 meters, the fourth highest in the world.
gerstlaueringvar Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Cool! Any info about which coaster manufacturer is making that coaster?
willthegolfer Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Awesome News! Really looking forward to seeing this progress, hopefully it has some amazing scenery and theming like Ocean Kingdom over in China.
larrygator Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 Cool! Any info about which coaster manufacturer is making that coaster? I only learn of this park from the article that came across my newsfeed. This is the first time I have heard of the park.
KBrylczyk Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Cool! Any info about which coaster manufacturer is making that coaster? Oh no...Chinese knockoff Dragster. Bad things are gonna happen.
_koppen Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 I have a feeling that we won't see the coaster built, but the park. The area have an insane amount of backpackers coming all the times of the year, and all the cultural stuff gets a bit boring after a while, so I could really see this park successful. I think also a lot of regular tourists visit the area, but I don't know how much. Unlike China, Thailand and Malaysia the people of Vietnamn is still pretty poor, so I think this park would depend on foreigners to survive, at least for the coming decades.

Unless they are building the park near the cruse ship pier... That's where normal travelers would go. I think those who are looking for something really "Vietnam" are mostly not into parks. At least I know Chinese rich visitors mostly stay at the beach or in the cruse ship.
Gutterflower Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Although it now appears to be going under a different name, The Sun Group posted this planned image for a park 2 years back. I imagine its the same park. http://vnre.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/sun-group-will-build-son-tra-ocean-park.html I think that's a misprint with the roller coaster too There will be a 125m observation wheel named Da Nang View, numerous international standard rides and replicas of buildings from many Asian countries. This article actually suggests they plan on building a 2 park resort. http://www.vn-tourism.com/news/lastest-news/two-international-standard-amusement-parks-da-nang
gerstlaueringvar Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 ^ By International standard ride, I think they mean "Chinese standard rides"
