larrygator Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 (edited) There were two new coaster credits installed this year along with one I need from last year along the Jersey Shore. Since I had plans to be in Jersey this afternoon I decided to collect those credits and also report on the new rides at three parks. Over the past two years Atlantic City's Steel Pier and two parks in Ocean City (Gillain's Wonderland and Playland's Castaway Cove) both installed quite a few new rides. I was very impressed with the flat ride additions especially the ones at Playland's Castaway Cove. Yes, I'm here for the kiddie coaster but Steel Pier certainly upgraded their flats since my last visit. New multi-drop tower sponsored by Monster. Seamore the octopus, similar motion to Downdraft at Knoebels. MIX Mini Frisbee type ride The old Sea Dragon has been replaced. But no sign of the Star Flyer that was supposed to be installed this year. 10 miles south at Gillian's Wonderland I pick up a Wacky Worm credit. and also rode the Haunted House Dark Ride. It was built by Bertazzon. There's a lot of neon inside but the props are not caged, timed well and it's just dark enough inside. I could see this startling little kids. The ride length is short, but well done. Their new Disk'O I know Laura would be excited for the gravitron, but since she's on the current TPR tour this thread may be buried before she ever she's it. The new coaster is the reason I stopped at Playland's Castaway Cove. It completely flew under my radar that they had so many new rides installed this year. Here's the third Air Race in America. They built it on a platform over other rides. A crappy picture but goes to show you that a park with no space can still expand. Not sure if this was new for 2013, but it's new since my last visit. Another intense flat. This ride from Technical Park blew me away. Very intense I had trouble walking straight after my cycle. The ride op thinks it the first US installation. I'm not 100% sure, but I've never seen one in the states before. The park even upgraded their old school funhouse. I was impressed with the changes made at all three parks, especially Playland's Castaway Cove. Edited August 6, 2013 by larrygator
cfc Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 I'm always happy to see a new dark ride open. That Tropical Storm must be intense if even you had trouble walking after riding it.
larrygator Posted August 6, 2013 Author Posted August 6, 2013 ^^Thanks for posting the POV. The spinning at the end of the ride (which is the same as how the ride starts) is the crazy part. I don't like paying $6 for a flat ride but this one was worth it. It kicked my butt.
kailisun98 Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 I think that that crazy ride is by Zamperla. Check this link here. http://zamperla.com/en/zamperla-details-rides-zodiac
deathbydinn Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 ^ Similar ride, but not the one at that park. http://www.technicalpark.com/heavy_rotation.htm
larrygator Posted August 6, 2013 Author Posted August 6, 2013 ^^No it is from Technical Park. ^Thank you Jon. Here is the manufacturer tag.
simon8899 Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Thanks for the TR. These parks look like mid-sized carnivals to me
kailisun98 Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 ^^No it is from Technical Park. ^Thank you Jon. Ahh. I stand corrected.
esvadj Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Another great report. I am heading to the Jersey Shore next week - plan on hitting some of these parks myself.
larrygator Posted August 6, 2013 Author Posted August 6, 2013 ^For anyone hitting Atlantic city and looking to save a few bucks, The Revel Casino still has free parking through the end of 2013.
Dr. M Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Here is a video of the entire ride cycle of that ride, in case anyone is curious: (Different park, same ride.)
