mrsreed Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 My husband and I are traveling to Virginia for our Anniversary and, of course, we will be visiting BGV and Kings Dominion while there. We have also kicked around the idea of going to Six Flags America and Six Flags GV. I have read that Six Flags America is not even worth the trip. Could anyone shed some light on which of these 4 parks we should visit and which ones are priorities to see. WE LOVE ROLLER COASTERS so that is our must see on this trip! Thanks Mrsreed
beatle11 Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 If your interesting in riding the coasters, then Six Flags America would be worth the stop just as long as you aren't expecting much. Ride Of Steel is pretty good and although my experience on Wild One was less than stellar it gets pretty good reviews as well. Beyond that, pretty much everything else is average at best. I was there on a Friday in early August and the park was almost completely empty, so despite the way they operate their rides, I was able to get through the park in less than 4 hours. Great Adventure, on the other hand, is one of the best coaster parks in the country so I would highly recommend it. El Toro alone is worth the trip. Have fun, and congrats on your anniversary.
Meteornotes Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Of the two, Great Adventure is the far, far superior choice. Much better collection of coasters, and it has El Toro, which is among the greatest rides on the planet. SFA really has nothing that stands out, and the park is just pretty terrible in general. I suppose you could stop for a quick "credit run", but I still think you'd have a much better time skipping it and heading to Great Adventure. dt
caffeine_demon Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Great adventure is over 200 miles from busch and kings dominion though! anyway - busch gardens is an absolute must, and kings dominion is great Six flags america isn't as awful as people suggest, but pretty low on the priority list!
SharkTums Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Are you driving or flying? Where are you coming from? Like others have mentioned if you're going to drive and PASS SFA on your way to Virginia, have Six Flags Passes, and time, you might as well go in and get some rides on Superman and Wild One. The other three parks on your list are MUCH superior though!
mrsreed Posted April 5, 2013 Author Posted April 5, 2013 We are flying in from St. Louis. We are renting a car and staying in Arlington. We have NO problem driving around to various parks. While at kings dominion and BGV we will be staying in Williamsburg. We are seriously thinking about driving to six flags great adventure because we are season pass holders. Thanks all for the comments! Much appreciated!
larrygator Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 WE LOVE ROLLER COASTERS so that is our must see on this trip! Based on this comment your priority amongst the four parks should be: SFGAdv KD BGW SFA
cfc Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 (edited) If you're staying in Arlington for a few days, you may as well hit SFA and use it as your "base camp" for Great Adventure before heading down to Williamsburg. I don't know when you're actually coming this way, but BGW will be holding a Food and Wine Festival (similar to Epcot's, from what I've heard) on weekends starting on May 31 and running until June 23. PalmTree55 Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 BGW, KD, and SFGA are the ones you need to see. Nothing much at SFA.
