simon8899 Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Some impressions from the Hannover Schützenfest. I visited on a monday and I've to say that I've never saw a carnival that deserted. Only the Olympia-Looping, Break Dancer and High Impress were at least gathering 4-6 riders every 15 minutes. Many rides were fairly deserted all day and I decided to skip those so the showmen don't have to spend all the energy for only one rider. At last there was also a new credit for me: A classic Zyklon 47 coaster built in 1968. At the time it was competing with the Schwarzkopf Wildcat, but the latter being far more forceful and exciting. This still is a good kiddie/family coaster though. The Waveswinger offers a nice background art - lets see how fast Imageshack deletes this... The advantage of an empty carnival was that the Dancer ran a 5+ minute program! Showman Dölle had a poster with his past rides on display. Didn't know Round-Ups are around since the 60s. Now some empty rides were I didn't see a single rider all day... At least some kids inside the funhouse. It's Spencer/Hill approved! Three girls on the long wait till the ride starts... Crowded midway...lol. At least I was able to get three spins on Olympia that day! Now its only less than 2 weeks till Sommerdom in my hometown Hamburg - and yes: Olympia Looping will be there...
GeorgeT Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Well, do I see it right that Artistico was NOT there ??? EDIT : Just found the video on youtube... Dude, how could you not show or mentioning this AWESOME ride ?
QueerRudie Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Beautiful pics of OlympiaLooping. It's good to see them keeping up with the paint on her, as for the most part, the colours are perfectly matching, and show good care for one of His greatest works. R.D.
chadster Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 As always, love your fair reports. Now I just need to get my butt over there to experience them!
King_K. Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 There is nothing I like more than light crowds at a big fair.
simon8899 Posted July 11, 2012 Author Posted July 11, 2012 @GeorgeT - yes, Artistico was there but also never saw it running all day. If I would've catched it in the air I would've made a pic @King_K - light crowds are one thing, waiting up to 20 minutes for a spin on Olympia is another. IMO you can't blame the showmen - I guess if less than 1/5 of the seats are filled it costs more to run the ride than they get from the patrons... @QueerRudie - last time in Hamburg I saw they were starting to upgrade the lightbubls on the loops with LEDs. When its in my hometown coming weeks I'll surely do nighttime visits and make pics of the progress. It's a thing all rides have to do soon as lightbulbs are soon forbidden in the EU.
