verticalzero Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 When looking at both coaster their Helix's look simular, maybe the designers of SOB thought, " let's recreate this Helix which the Cyclone had". Check out this link of a model for the Cyclone: http://www.cmgmodels.com/cbc/CBC%20Gall%201.htm Now comapre it to SOB: http://www.rcdb.com/ig584.htm?picture=2 They seem the same design. Let me see your comments please:
CoasterFanatic Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 The general concept is very similar, but on a MUCH MUCH larger scale. // bets the Cyclone's was smoother!
crispy Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Uh, well the Cyclone's helix is ALOT tighter, and MUCH more forcful than SOB's they had a nurse at the station becuase that ride would make people black out
MagnumForce Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Sonny's helix copies the Beast's helix which copied the helix on the Shooting Star at Coney Island Ohio. If you sit in 1-2 on Sonny the ride is actually really enjoyable, pitty such awful trains have to ruin a ride. Incidently the two Grizzlies at PKD, and PGA and the Wild Beast at PCW are copies of CI's other big woodie, the Wildcat, when the park was replaced by King's Island. The Mighty Canadian Mine Buster is a close representation of the Shooting Star as well.
CoasterFanatic Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 ^ Correction: The Mighty Canadian Minebuster USED TO BE a close representation of the Shooting Star
MagnumForce Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 It was loosely based to begin with, the butchering of the ride hardly changes that. It's still as close as you are going to find to the original. I hardly doubt a Summers POS would have ever been as good as aSchmeck to beign with
Real Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Cyclone was an amazing ride from the old stories I have read. It wasnt just the double helix that was so forceful, it was the figure-eight under the station that was just unbelievable wicked. Long live Harry Traver...he easily wins the vote for more inovative and daring designer to date.
SonOfBeastSucks Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 ^^^^ I still don't think I would like SOB with new trians, but I agree it would be a big improvment. One thing especialy bad on the trians is the grab handles in front of your knees on the ride. You have to work to make sure your kness don't smash into the hard steel! I still vote for tearing it down and replacing it with an Intamin giga
