DougMJr Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I decided to do something the polar opposite of my last project. We're going from super compact to Giga! Altitude is a 320' tall B&M Giga utilizing the new larger lift spine. This is my first project with 3ds and I'm really excited about it. Very steep first drop. I haven't actually measured out the angle yet. Some moderate ejector air in the back seats. Here is the station. It isn't finished yet. Still have to add gates and scenery. I like how it turned out though. The back of the station and the "wishbone" exit. I did duel ramps so one could be used as a fastpass line if the park desires. The supports on the lift are finished. And most of the lift stairs are in place. Yes there is a Barrel Roll after the lift...But it's different than Levi's. It also will have airtime on the way out. I wanna ride now! Too bad I have tons of work to do on this thing... like finish the layout! More coming soon. Comments appreciated.
Gigalyte Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Love your station How did you make the B&M spine??? Everything is looking great so far can't wait to see the finished product.
-Edge of Beast- Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I see you found a name It's looking pretty good! Definitely like a real B&M Giga. I especially love the queue line and how it twirls around and is more interactive than some other queues. I also like the support spine-thing on the drop like Leviathan's! Looking forward to more, and coming from you, it should be good.
DougMJr Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 ^^The spine is just a bunch of 3ds pieces I made in sketchup. I like the station too, but it looked better in sketchup than it does in no limits. ^This will only be my second coaster I've ever uploaded to the forum. I'm guessing you really liked the invert I did then! Thanks, it means a lot to me.
hulahoop1 Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 I am loving it so far, and I love the "wishbone" exit or entrance ramp. The spine is pretty awesome too.
XYZ Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Amazing. I think that color is amazing and is much better than putting blue track, even though it fits with the name Altitude, it would symbolize Leviathan too much.
coastercrazy 9 Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 ^ I like the color too, but I think it resembles Levithian a little too much!
DougMJr Posted December 9, 2011 Author Posted December 9, 2011 I've been busy with finals, so I haven't had much time to work on this the last couple of days. I nearly have the layout completed however. Here is an overview of the coaster thus far. Order of elements. 1) Lift and Drop 2) Overbank / Barrel Roll 3) Airtime Hill 4) Overbank / Turn Around 5) High Speed Airtime Hill 6) Airtime Hill 7) High Speed Curve / Overbank 8) Under lift into MCBR 9) Helix 10) Out of the helix into a slightly overbanked curve. 11) Small Airtime Hill Overview from a Different Angle I'm probably going to add an small overbank to turn into the final break run, unless I change my mind and completely tweak everything I've done so far. I know that the beginning of this is similar to Leviathan. This is on purpose because I like the drop into barrel roll into airtime hill combo. I changed things up a little with the turn around, but you can only do so much with a B&M turn around. And in all honesty, most B&M hypers are similar to each other in some regard. What do you guys think of having the slower, twistier section after the MCBR. Do you think it looks out of place? This is my second track on the forum and I put a lot of thought into these. I want to make sure they are my best. If there is anything you would suggest improving please comment. As a side note, this is hand made. I am experimenting with Newton2 and I'll be using it on my next track.
CorkscrewFoley Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Douglas, it looks really good man! I'm digging the overbank airtime hill, and the helix action going on after the midcourse. I have a question. Why do you have the chain on the flat bit between the station and the lift? I see you started using kickers and then just opted for the chain instead. Again, it's a great looking coaster, and i don't want to steal any of your thunder.
DougMJr Posted December 9, 2011 Author Posted December 9, 2011 ^Good question. Actually that bit has changed a bit. I did end up using kickers. The reason the chain starts on the flat part is because, like leviathan, that is where the motor will be. (Pictures Below) Kickers and brakes (In case of e-stop while starting on hill. Extra safety measure) A motor will go hear, much like leviathan.
CCI Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 I love it, can't wait to see this fully supported.
KDCOASTERFAN Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Nice layout...looks like you've got some of Carowinds' hyper in there especially the turn around. The orange does seem a bit too bright, perhaps red or maroon may prove to be a better color?
