mwm1444 Posted December 4, 2011 Share Posted December 4, 2011 A couple of weeks back, Rosie (freekeee) and I went off into the posh part of central London, to take a look at the annual Christmas-fest that is Hyde Park Winter Wonderland. This was my third year going, and Rosie's first time, so it was awesome to show her around, and experience the new and old attractions together. Winter Wonderland greets you with a German(ish) Christmas market, with tacky gifts and yummy food a-plenty: Welcome to Winter Wonderland. Or WWW. for short. Hey, that rings a bell... Georg the Christmas Moose welcomes you, and sings carols and popular Christmas songs in alternate English and German. As you can see, it can get a little busy. Also, the Americans may be wondering what a 'Christmas Dinner in a Bap' is, and whether it's legal. We're not telling. We'll get to the tacky stuff later, I promise...moving further on into the fair: Scary Talking Tree is Sleepy. Here's Rosie with a moose. Or a reindeer. Can anyone give us a definitive answer on what this actually is? After a brief stroll around the fair to see how much cash we needed to get out for tickets (if you can avoid it, don't use the machines inside WW, they're awful 'This Machine Charges £1.80 for Withdrawals' things), we actually left Hyde Park, wandered down further into the posh underbelly (or should that be overbelly? Or exposed belly?) of London, to Harrods... ...where we saw...PUPPIES! We also stumbled upon this awful excuse for veterinary science, where poor little dogs get spliced with snails to make a new breed of tiny, shelled animals designed specifically for painfully slow leg-humping. Or maybe it was a doggie spa, we're not sure. Posh people are strange. And that was that. Oh wait, you wanted actual ride photos from Hyde Park Winter Wonderland? Well, as Oz, the Great and Powerful would say... Thanks to Robin for reminding me to finish this off! When last we met, Rosie and I had gone to Harrods, to get a very expensive (but worthwhile) lunch, and see exceptionally cute puppies. We returned to Hyde Park about 5.30pm, and all the pretty lights were on... So I guess you'd like to see coasters and stuff, would you? Here we have a spinning mouse... Not too shabby, we got a pretty decent spin on this. Across the way is the kid's area Santa Land. I've never actually been past the entrance, but from the outside it looks better than most kid's areas in actual parks... As we carry on down the midway, we pass the Carousel Bar... ...and the giant-a$$ drop tower with the awesome effects package. The fact that the frame holding the seats looks like a snowflake is an awesome coincidence. We come to the Alpine Adventure thrill flat courtyard: Rosie did, I didn't. Definitely not! The best themed Waltzer I've ever seen. Wrong end of the island, mate! Carrying on along the way, across from Zippo's... ...we have the suspended haunted house, and Sceptical Mike waiting to ride. I wonder how Sceptical Mike is feeling now... Extensive therapy was required afterwards. Play on, giant skeletal violinist. Next to Zippo's is the severely-banked suspended mouse Euro Coaster. Brace on the turns; the drops are great fun. Pretty! This was honestly terrifying. This wasn't. Giant slide. Not much else to be said, really. Here's the Christmas Big Apple. Not to be confused with Christmas IN the Big Apple, which I gather is cold but magical. This was mild and not so magical. Fun, though. Almost back where we started, we have the 5D cinema, which was actually quite fun. NOTED! Oh, wait...that's copyrighted? UNDERSTOOD! Next door, we have what was, until recently, my favourite attraction at Winter Wonderland, Pirates Adventure. Giant animatronic pirate and crazy German pirate funhouse antics = win! There'll be more to come, focusing on funhouses, food and other stuff, but for now - Scary Talking Tree is awake and says SCRAM! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

And the facade for the Pirate Funhouse looks great! And the "Ghost Train of Christmas Past" facade looked just.... well, words fail me. Which isn't often, lol.
