stereohead Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 (edited) Excerpt from Caldwell Herald June 4, 1966 Mysterious Activity at Local Apple Orchard By: John Browning Since last November, when the old Brooks Apple Orchard shut down and the family left town, the tract of land that the Orchard had occupied stood vacant. The Orchard, which had been run by the the Brooks family in town for generations, was closed after this past season due to the owner, Davy Brooks, being diagnosed with throat cancer. Many folks in town tried to step up and purchase the land, but all advances never quite got anywhere. That is, until quite recently an unknown company bought up the land. The company wasted no time in relocating the old barn and house into the Interior of Caldwell, then bulldozing the remnants of the old orchard (including the general store and the apple trees). A large amount of the dumpsters filled with waste had already left earlier that day. Rumors have spread as to what will be put there, ranging from a GM manufacturing plant, to a large mansion. However, today you can go down and decide for yourself as it is obvious that crews are working on something big. This appears to be the beginning of a wooden roller coaster, of which has never been seen in this area of Michigan. Not to further progress rumors, but this writer thinks it may not be coincidence that this development has occurred around the same time as the development down in Orlando Florida. Locals in town have stated their wishes for it to be Disney, but no one (besides the developers themselves) will know who is running the operation. A spokesperson for the company has stated that the project will be called "Open Orchards Amusement Park" in homage to the late Orchard that sat on that land. No other details have been released at this point in time, but I, and every reporter for the herald will keep our eyes open for more news on the "Open Orchards" development. KI Kidd Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Looks good so far! Looking forward to seeing where this goes.
stereohead Posted November 16, 2011 Author Posted November 16, 2011 ^ Thanks! I hope this is able to go far. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Excerpt from Caldwell Herald June 14,1966 Name Released for New Roller Coaster By: John Browning After little more than a week, more information has been released by the company behind "Open Orchards" about the new roller coaster. It is to be called 'BarnStormer', and is a homage to the old barn that used to take up the new ride's space. The Station is themed to the old barn. A view of a completed portion of the ride from the passing road. There is still a large amount of work left to do on the actual ride itself, but with all work seemingly going towards it, it should be completed soon. There is no news yet on when there will be a press release for the new park, or an official opening date. With only a fraction of a roller coaster built and nothing else, it doesn't appear that an opening will be in the near future. When more news breaks on this development, us here at the herald will bring it to you.
funkeymon Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 I'm very intrigued by this project. Keep it up!
BaMiTsPaT Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 I like the theme of the coaster a lot! Barnstormer is a really great name for a coaster imo.
stereohead Posted November 16, 2011 Author Posted November 16, 2011 ^ When I thought of it i thought it was pretty cool too. ^^ Thanks, I really appreciate the positive feedback ^^^ I really like the work you have done recently on RCT2! I hope that i will keep this park entertaining and interesting. I plan to post updates often, as long as it doesn't affect the overall quality of the park.
imawesome1124 Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 This has enormous potential. I can see this becoming a great park, as long as you don't abandon it.
Cole Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 I love the barn themed coaster. Looks awesome so far!
stereohead Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 ^ Thanks! ^^ I hope that will be the case, all the other parks i have created (I never posted any) started out with a good idea, but kinda teetered out early in the building stages. ^^^ Thank you! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Excerpt from Caldwell Herald June 28, 1966 Lift Hill Completed This large hill now looms over the rest of the development. At 105 feet tall, it towers over even the tallest building in town! This segment of the roller coaster, for those of you who don't know, is called a lift hill. It uses a chain to pull the roller coaster up the lift and over the hill. Also, the developers have managed to pave a parking lot and build the main entrance. The "Open Orchards" developers hope to hold a press conference soon, but still do not have an official date in mind.
imawesome1124 Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 It looks great, but I think you should make the center building of the entrance a tile wider on each side. Do that and it will be perfect. Edit: This is just a nitpick, but I don't think they had 105 foot coasters in 1966. When Gemini opened in 1978 it was the tallest coaster in the world and it is only about 20 feet taller. I might be wrong, but don't worry about it too much. You could always make it a record breaker.
stereohead Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 I agree with you about the main entrance and I will fix it, i just notice how awkward it looks. I'm not 100% seeing as this info is from wikipedia, but a coaster was built in 1925 that broke 100 feet, so i just assumed that there would be several at the same height in 1966. I'm glad that you brought it up, I should put a little bit more effort into my research than just assumptions
imawesome1124 Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 ^ No it's cool. Like I said if it turns out there were no coasters that tall back then make this one a record breaker.
mcjaco Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I'm glad that you brought it up, I should put a little bit more effort into my research than just assumptions I wouldn't worry about it. That was one major nitpick.
stereohead Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 Hey everyone, i have some bad news. I am having trouble with placing rides, whenever i try to place them, they always hover above the ground and cannot be placed down any farther. This seems to be due to the terrain, which can't be flattened, i tried for a while. If anyone has a solution please tell me, but if not, I will try building in a different scenario editor and see if it works.
stereohead Posted November 21, 2011 Author Posted November 21, 2011 Got things working again, took longer than i wanted but it allowed me to fix a few things, including building a sizable parking lot. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Excerpt from the Caldwell Herald August 12, 1966 Woodie Finally Completed By: John Browning The layout for BarnStormer at Open Orchards has been finished since Tuesday. It began testing yesterday, and so far has ran perfectly. After some research, we have also found that BarnStormer will be the tallest roller coaster in the world, by 5 feet. Local trees have been brought over from the surrounding area and have been re-planted around the coaster with surprising speed. The developers have also released a P.O.V. (point of view) picture and a picture that shows the entire layout. There also has been the addition of a 'Rotor" ride, and a classic Carousel. Work has also began on the entrance plaza. Another additional detail that may be otherwise overlooked is the planting of apple trees in various places of the park, an homage to the orchard.
funkeymon Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Looking spectacular! I would suggest leaving some breathing room around the coaster itself, it seems to have way to many trees surrounding it.
imawesome1124 Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 ^Nah, I think it makes it look better. Look at Raven at Holiday World, you can barely see any of it at all through the trees. The only thing I can think of to improve it would be to use a bigger variety of trees around the coaster. It gets a little repetitive, but a little more variety will make it perfect.
-Edge of Beast- Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 It's looking pretty good I guess. Although, I hate your terracoloring (land color) and lack of rocks and bushes and other foliage. You definitely need more color to it, because I'm only seeing green and brown. Add some shyguy's Rocks or maybe composerboy's Rocks. Another aspect that bugs me is your use of that one type of fence that you're using in, well, the whole park basically. Mix some other fences in like Moby's X-Fences and/or Dasmatze's Fences and Railings. Just a couple simple things to help.
funkeymon Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 ^^ But the forest isn't nearly as dense. I think if he just lightened it up a bit, it would look much better.
stereohead Posted November 22, 2011 Author Posted November 22, 2011 ^ & ^^^ I think i will make the forest less dense and add more tree variation, thanks for your suggestions! ^^ If you could give me a the links to the rock sets i would be glad to improve the landscape. I am a novice, i'm better at coaster designing, so any advice/ help will be much appreciated.
funkeymon Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Also, add some dirt near the bottom of the coaster's structure. It is brand new, so it should look like construction has just stopped. I hope this helps, and if you need more, feel free to PM me at any time!
stereohead Posted November 22, 2011 Author Posted November 22, 2011 ^ Just did that, Thanks for reminding me to do it. I dont know when the next update will be I am trying to refine my methods of themeing for this new ride. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Excerpt from Caldwell Herald August 28, 1966 Information From Press Release By: John Browning We now know some more about the developers behind Open Orchards. They are called Front Line Entertainment. They only gave us the bear bones of what is occurring, giving us a possible opening date in July of 1967. There was also the mentioning of another ride, and they released a logo for it. Other than that there is no news to report.
stereohead Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 This is not an official update, I felt kinda bad that I hadn't posted any work recently. That being said, I haven't worked as much on the park in a while. ^ This is my first attempt at trying to terracolor/terraform better. I think it turned out okay, but I just wanted other peoples opinion. ^ Same plot of land with some trees. I tried to add more variation in the trees and also space them out better. ^ New log flume attraction i designed, i wanted to know it the layout is okay, and also ask for name suggestions. I would additionally like to thank every one who views and comments for showing interest in this project.
