simon8899 Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 (edited) Bremen Freimarkt - Oct 15th Bremen Freimarkt is one of the oldest funfairs in germany - this year the 376th time - and since the 60s divided into the "Classic Freimarkt" located at the historc city center square and the "Freimarkt" on the Bürgerweide (citizens park) right next to the central station were all the spacious modern rides reside. Part 1: Classic Freimarkt On the way to the city center for the Classic Freimarkt... View over the city square with a classic ferris-wheel and merry-go-round. Wonderfully maintained merry-go-round. The memorial of the founding knight is each year "conquered" with ballons and a huge Lebkuchen heart during the opening of Freimarkt. View from the other side of the city square. Musicians playing medieval music. On most areas of the city center its allowed during Freimarkt to make music or sell stuff flea-market like - an old Allemanns Recht (all-mans right) during Freimarkt. View into one of the historic streets - this one leading from the city square to the river Weser. Like the rest of the city center this is part of Unesco World Heritage. Another beautiful view of the classic Freimarkt. A tram is worming its way through the crowds on city square... Finally - before venturing on the the "new" Freimarkt" - a view at Beck's were the beer comes from. Edited October 19, 2011 by simon8899
simon8899 Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 Part 2: Euro-Coaster to Höllenblitz First up was the quite unique inverted mouse Euro-Coaster. According to the german website Fahrgeschäfts-Datenbank this coaster was made by french company Reverchon. The cars were quite comfy as they were swinging out in the turns. When you rush down the small drops to nearly ground level are of course the best moments... Woooooosh.....but very family-friendly coaster. Front view. Airwolf in full swing. It was roumored the ride would be sold to a park but the owner made it clear that he has no plans to sell the ride. A back view of the classic Rotor. This is the first Rotor built in the early 50s - and since 1969 operated by showmen Pluschies. The english Wiki article therefore is quite incorrect - this is the last travelling Rotor... The 1907' Toboggan slide. Inside the Rotor, The current Rotor front with LED lights - more evening pics soon. During its live the Rotor already featured fronts by Schwarzkopf and Mack - this current one was made by Dietz. The indoor coaster Höllenblitz! Höllenblitz train swooooshing by - in this only short outdoor passage you can get wet by the waterfall...
simon8899 Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 Part 3: From XXL-Swing to Top-Spin XXL is swinging 47 meters up at 100 km/h - big fun. Beer-tent! Nice to see a Round-Up on a carnival - sadly it gathered nearly no visitors. A refitted Schwarzkopf Monster 3 to have four gondolas instead of the regular five on each arm - add to this new engines at the end of the arms the gondolas now spin 20 percent faster. This close you stand on the red line.... Sitting inside with a nice view onto some hot paintings on the central hub.... View down the aisle.... View up to the 60 meter ferris-wheel. Frisbee in full swing - and again I saw a girl puking on this one. Break Dancer "Happy Traveller" to the left and a Wild Mouse in the center. Old-style non-inversion swing "Looping the Loops". Happy Traveller featured some unique roofs over the dancing gondolas. Mousing going on - this one operated by Kinzler IMO a little smoother than the Barth mouse. One of three bumper cars making a lot of fog... Huss Top-Spin. Another view of the Kinzler' Wild Mouse. Top-Spin up front. Top-Spin and Wild Mouse standing side by side - with bumper cars and the Happy Traveller to the right off the picture. They really packed tons of rides... A uniquely half-roofed Shaker called Commander. Continued tomorrow with pics from the ferris wheel - of Alpina Bahn - and the rides in their full illumination during the evening....
A.J. Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 It's interesting that you like the inverted wild mouse. All I've read about it is that it's a terrible ride.
Moose Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 That inverted wild mouse looks like fun. I'm surprised there aren't more of them. Thanks for the pics!
simon8899 Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 Part 4: Ferris Wheel to Alpina-Bahn View from the 60meter Ferris Wheel over the fairground with the Alpina-Bahn in the back with the Log-Flume, Höllenblitz and Wild Mouse in the front. XXL-Swing and the beertent. As you can see the Ferris Wheel gondolas are except for the support-beams all open. Round-Up, Monster and Frisbee. Hustle and bustle as the musicexpress stops. As poeple can enter from all sides the changeover times are extremely short. Each rider buys a ride-"jetton" to hand to the circling ride-attendant as proof-of-purchase. Musikexpress in full swing and poeple waiting for their turn. The gondolas swooshing by not even half a meter away... Höllenblitz front gleaming in the sunlight. A classic Schunkler - a ride swinging on an asynchronous axis as well as hopping up an down. The riders - with no restraints whatsoever - have to cling to the metal bars in their back as their bodies are bounced around. The second Break Dancer on this fairground. Again standing right next to the octogonal rotating plate - and no one cares... Break Dancer in full sight. The massive log-flume going for the splash - this one is taller than some I've seen stationary in parks... A classic 70s ride... But this is no ordinary Peter Pan ride - on this ride made by Mack the boats can spin! The center of this ride features a wonderful fountain. And also some hot mermaids... ...and yes: this unique ride is named Happy Sailor - well if the Sailer meets those mermaids... Finally to the Schwarzkopf goodness: Alpina-Bahn on the first drop. A piece of the Alpina-Bahn track on display in front of the ticket-house. Alpina-Bahn on the zero-G hill.
Moose Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 How was Alpina Bahn running? It always amazes me how these huge coasters are traveling and still give awesome rides.
gisco Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 All these German Fairs and carnivals look so cool.
simon8899 Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 Alpina runs great as always. Schwarzkopf invented several improvements for portable rides like the conic joint system were youu can - simply put - join track parts like Lego while using less bolts and supports.
robinschroder Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Thanks for all the photos - looks like a good fair! We get Euro Coaster in London at Christmas time as part of Hyde Park's Winter Wonderland event. Earlier this year, I saw it go a bit wrong during morning testing - having restarted after an E-Stop, the blocks were all out of sync and some cars went slamming into each other on several of the block sections as they tried to get the ride back to normal. No-one was on the ride at the time, and needless to say, the ride went down for quite a while until they managed to reset it properly... It made an excellent sound each time the cars banged into each other, though!
Jew Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Aside from being insanely jealous of all the cool rides German fairs get, I think it's really cool how they integrated the "old" with "new."
simon8899 Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 Final Part: Evening pictures Bumper cars. Airwolf in light-blue and pink. Rotor with the new changing LED sign. XXL-Swing. Die Krake in all colors. Very flashy and still with classic lightbulbs. I hope that some rides will keep those - but lightbulbs are soon to be forbidden in the EU... Frisbee in yellow, orange and red. Kiddies love the living ghosts... Wilde Maus and Höllenblitz - the later also with changing LEDs. Happy Traveller with Ferris Wheel in the back. Top Spin. Commander is very flashy after dawn - sorry that pic got a little blurry. An evening view down the aisle. Break Dancer No.2. Happy Sailor. Alpina Bahn up the zero G hill. Alpina Bahn station. Alpina ticket house. Tons of sweets... Before going home a good bavarian beer... Final view down the aisle...
