Real Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Im looking for a day trip to one of these 3 parks. Im from Toledo, each of them is a total days drive there and back and Im ready for that. My wife thought about going to Holiday World since I didnt get to go for Holiwood Nights however, I want to go once Voyage gets Timberliners. So, next year. But I figure if Im going to spend 6-7hrs driving, another 2-3hrs is no difference - so Ive extended my search and come up with 3 parks I really want to hit , only with time for one. Carowinds Kings Dominion Busch Gardens Europe Attraction with the first 2...free admission with out CF Platinum Passes. Obvious rides at Carowinds are Afterburn, Intimidator, Vortex, etc. Kings Dominion, I305, Volcano, Dominator, Avalanche... Basically, Ive been there before but only got to ride Anaconda and Rebel Yell. Busch Gardens Europe has an icon and 3 fantastic B&M's that I know Id love. All are 10hrs or less from me. Busch Id have to pay for but I feel like that's a more relaxing experience. The coaster line-ups at the other 2 parks are more vast but I know I get quality with BGE. What are the best reasons for each park?

eddie200330 Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 I really don't see BG as being a "day trip" after driving all that way. That place has an immense layout that is up and down and quite the bit of walking. Kings Dominion is awesome if you've never been, and Carowinds is really nice, but again a lot on your body just because of the tremendous drive to get there.
Real Posted July 9, 2011 Author Posted July 9, 2011 Well, drive, get good nights sleep, then do park. Then sleep all night, leave in mid morning. Not terrible but definitely not close. I take that risk. Driving doesnt phase me much yet plus my wife and I usually split driving so each gets downtime. Holiday World is pretty up and down too thats why I say its the closest from what I can tell. Not a bunch of coasters but whats there is really good and atmospheres seem similar. Its a ways away, thinking labor day, so I have time to think this through.
robbalvey Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 If the coaster selection at BGW is appealing to you, I'd go with that option. If you are a fan of Intamin hyper coasters, I'd choose KD in a heartbeat.
Real Posted July 9, 2011 Author Posted July 9, 2011 Im trying to appease myself and my wife... LOL She loves coasters like me but tend to stick with the more "fun" ones. I am a fan of all of them. I think the real choice is between KD and BGE. Insane coaster with a few good others against beautiful park, good operations and good, solid rides. It would be a Sunday and I saw elsewhere Robb you mentioned BGE has superior operations. My wife hates lines. So, that might also push us in that direction. Thanks for the input. Ill keep plastering Cedar Point pictures on here till I get to go somewhere else.
braztaz Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Kings Dominion has i305 which one of the best coasters in the worlds (sometimes I take the trip to KD to only ride i305 and nothing else!), Volcano which is a very fun unique ride, it also has "fun rides", like Dominator which is still fairly intense, the woodies, plus a Drop Tower that's actually open , and a big handful of other coasters and rides on the side. KD also has an incredible Starlight Spectacular and fireworks show. Busch Gardens has an amazing atmosphere, great live shows, good food, and some very fun coasters that just aren't mind-blowing....Apollo's Chariot, Griffon, Lochness Monster, and Alpengeist. I live almost an equal distance away from both, but I always chose KD over BGE. I just have a better time there for the full day trip, and well i305 is just amazing and worth the trip on it's own! So I pick KD, but that's just my personal preference. BGE is still a very nice, fun park.
PAL Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Busch Gardens also has Quick Queue, to avoid long lines. Even with just one day I'd be tempted to go for the best of both. The two parks are only about an hour apart. Hit KD (it's free right, you said you have a pass), get a few quick coaster laps when the park opens, then hustle over to BGE, grab a Quick Queue and enjoy the rest of the day at a relaxing pace.
