skitt2010 Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 (edited) I am taking my first trip to Florida in september 2011. I am visiting all the major parks and am dead excited about it. Looking for suggestions from people on some things that must be done whilst over there. Its a 3-week holiday, so dont worry, ill have plenty of time to check all on the list!!! Mod Edit: I removed your 30 smilies from the post. Please, do not overuse the emoticons. It is distracting and annoying. A couple here and there is fine, but several in succession is unnecessary. Thanks! Edited June 28, 2011 by ernierocker
dj snow Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Make some time to go to a Halloween event. It's likely that Halloween Horror Nights at Universal, or Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens in Tampa, will just be starting up toward the end of your trip. Definitely worth checking out if you've never been to one of these events. I don't think either has released a Halloween operating calendar yet, but looking at Universal's calendar, they've got 5pm closes as early as September 24 and 25 this year, and again starting Thursday, Sept. 29, so those are potential HHN nights (though the first couple may be employee preview nights). If you decide to go, read through threads here for helpful tips (such as: ALWAYS buy HHN Express at Universal). Enjoy!
Coaster Cow Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Wow! Three weeks! If you really are open to anything, including non-park things, I HIGHLY recommend going to Sanibel and Captiva Island. If you want great wildlife, beaches, and fun things to do, that's where to do it. Go to a Dairy Queen too, get a brownie blizzard. That's the real way to experience America.
doublestufforeo Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Definitely get a frozen butterbeer in the Harry Potter section of IoA (and Pumpkin Juice if you'd like I haven't had it yet...) but it's the only place in the world you can get it, and it's delicious!
mousch Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Mannys Chop House on the US 27 nr haines city is a great place to eat, usually you have to wait to get a table but the food is well worth the wait
doublestufforeo Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Colorado Fondue Company restaurant is sooooooo good.
skitt2010 Posted June 29, 2011 Author Posted June 29, 2011 Wow, thanks all for the awesome responses. I think the scale of things will blow me away... ill just have to wait and see. Definitely taking the suggestions of drinking some Butter Beer... and eating a Brownie Blizzard at a Dairy Queen!! Thanks to everyone!
frozenflames Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Here are my suggestions: -Hit up the "mountain range" in the Disney parks (Space, Splash, Big Thunder, Expedition Everest, maybe the ones in the water parks) -Make sure you eat a turkey leg and a Mickey Premium ice cream bar -Go mini-golfing on International Drive (aka I-Drive) -Ride Spiderman in Islands of Adventure, and Revenge of the Mummy in Universal Studios -Take advantage of the cheesy, touristy photo-ops. Yes, they're silly, but you'll be on vacation so just revel in it and have fun -Check out Downtown Disney for all the shops, and maybe look into DisneyQuest or the Cirque du Soleil show -Go to the "world's largest McDonald's" by Universal -Check out all the funky billboards everywhere And for some basic tips, make sure you stay hydrated and drink lots of water, wear sunscreen, eat well to maintain energy, and most of all, HAVE FUN!!!
LoopLover Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 - Spend a day at Aquatica! - Try Beverly Coca Cola in Epcot. - See Clyde and Seamore at Seaworld! - Go to Mickey's house at The Magic Kingdom. - Spend a long time just exploring Main Street in The Magic Kingdom! and most important one - ENJOY IT ALL!
