thrillrider Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 The plant I work at shuts down for 2 weeks in july, so what better time for a road trip. The one part of the country that I have not really explored too much is mid America. I have been over to sf Chicago, holiday world, indiana beach, and kentucky kingdom. So, I decided to hit up some parks that I have not been to before. Here is the list of parks that I plan to visit on the upcoming trip. 1.Vallyfair 2. Nick universe 3.Adventureland 4.Arnolds park 5.Sfstl 6.Silver dollar city 7.Worlds of fun 8. The dells That leaves me with a few extra days of park going. Any suggestions as to other parks in the area that I should maybe check out? Thank's for any and all advice.
Coastinmiller Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Lol, sounds like the same trip I have been just planned but in reverse. My plant shuts down a week for the 4th and we are hitting: 1) All-Star Adventures 2) Frontier City 3) Route 66 Carousel (hopefully) 4) Silver Dollar City 5) Schlitterbahn KC 6) Worlds of Fun 7) Adventureland 8) Arnolds 9) Valleyfair 10) Nick universe and Como Town Sorry no help, just thought it was a pretty neat coincidence.
ryerson Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I live in Kansas City and if you like water parks Oceans of Fun and Schlitterbahn KC are both fun parks to go to.
thrillrider Posted June 15, 2011 Author Posted June 15, 2011 Not really into the waterparks so much, but sliterbahn(sp) looks like fun.
STR8FXXXINEDGE Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Not sure how much of a credit whore you are, but you could hit up Little A-merrick-A in WI on your way up to the Dells, and you could hit up Como Town in MN. It's a shame that Celebration City is no longer. Ozark Wildcat was an amazing little coaster!
thrillrider Posted June 15, 2011 Author Posted June 15, 2011 Como town? I may have to look into that. Thank you.
triggernel Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 ~Give yourself some time to walk around the Mall of America. ~Gotta do The City Museum ~In the Dells, you really only need to hit Mt.O and Noah's Ark. Maybe Kalahari if you need something else to do. ~Check out Monk's Restaurant in the Dells. Great Burgers! ~Valleyfair has special Walking Tacos. They're served in Waffle Cones. Delicious! Have fun on your trip!
STR8FXXXINEDGE Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 ^ Can't forget about Timber Falls Adventure Park in the Dells for Avalanche/HellCat. It's right down the street from Mt. Olympus. I don't think I've been on another coaster that has felt so out of control as that little thing!
thrillrider Posted June 16, 2011 Author Posted June 16, 2011 If we are just interested in the coasters, how long would it take to get all the coasters done at the dells? Never been there. Also, we just added little America to our park list.
blade1 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 There are only 4 coasters at Mt. Olympus, so you can get all of them done in a day, especially if you are not doing the waterparks. Last year I believe they were only charging for parking on Sat. so You can leave the park to do lunch or Timber Falls. Timber falls is basically a mini golf course that has an upcharge coaster. I've only seen 2-4 people on it when it cycles. So you don't need much time to ride it. You could also catch it on your way in/out. Also, Mt. O has some of the worst operations I have ever seen, so don't get your hopes up. Hades is terrifying to ride, but also in my top 3 roughest coasters, especially since we are about the same age.
STR8FXXXINEDGE Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 If we are just interested in the coasters, how long would it take to get all the coasters done at the dells? Never been there. Also, we just added little America to our park list. I was there in early August a couple years ago. I did Little A-merrick-A, Mt. Olympus, and Timber Falls all in the same day and still had time to drive to our hotel by the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN. That was riding all of the coasters one time, except for Hades and Avalanche/Hell Cat which I did multiple rides on. That was just banging out the coasters and moving on.
Jojo19799 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Be careful of Little Amerricka's hours. Sometimes they are closed on a Monday or a Tuesday. The park normally opens at noon and will close early (like between 5-7pm). You don't need a lot of time at the park, but there is a lot of stuff for kids there. And don't forget to take the train ride. It's awesome. Not sure how much time you plan on spending at the Dells, but Mt. O offers "Night at the Park". I think it's $22 (check Club TPR for a price too) and the park is open 10pm-1am for this. And yes, all coasters are open as well as some of the go kart tracks. It's something to consider especially with the strange hours that Little Amerricka has. One last thing, someone mentioned Monk's Restaurant. GO THERE! Really good food. It's not that expensive either.
ilrider Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Not to hijack the thread, but we are going to Mt. Olympus for the first time Tuesday, and I've read that Hades is very rough. Are any seats less rough than others on Hades?
deathbydinn Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 ^ Front, the front row is fine and worth the extra wait. The wave pool at Mount Olympus is really fantastic. If you want to cool off, don't bother waiting for the slides, the wave pool is good enough. It's impossible to miss, right across from Opa and fairly big with huge waves. And its the only thing there that never has a line. Mount O's Night at the Park could be nice if you arrive in the Dells later in afternoon/evening. You'd still have to go for a while the next day if you wanted the rest of the 5/6 credits, (not sure if they'd let you ride the kiddie coaster) but at least you would have to spend a much shorter time there, since you wouldn't have to wait in the slow moving lines for the major coasters. NatP rides: 3 Go-Karts (Turbo, Trojan Horse and Poseidon’s), 3 Rollercoasters (Hades, Zeus and Cyclops), 3 Kiddie Rides (Balloons, Swings and Airplanes), Poseidon’s Rage Surf Pool and the following 3 Extreme Rides which are an extra charge (Almighty Hermes, Apollo Swing and the Catapult) http://www.mtolympuspark.com/night-at-the-park/
ilrider Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 ^Thanks for the advice! That wave pool looks insane! We are going to stay overnight, so we'll have a whole day plus any time we want to spend Wednesday. We want to hit Hellcat as well. We're heading to Green Bay Wednesday to ride Zippin Pippin.
thrillrider Posted June 23, 2011 Author Posted June 23, 2011 Ok.... The final itinerary for the trip is now set. Here is the order of the parks we are going to visit. 1.Kings Island 2.Coney island 3.strikers grove 4.sfstl/St Louis arch 5.worlds of fun 6.Adventureland 7.Arnolds park 8.Mall of America(nick universe) 9.Vallyfair 10.Dells (several parks and coasters) 11.Little amerika 12.sfga 13.michigans adventure for a few hours(since it's right on the way home) And of course I will have a HUGE trip report to follow. The trip starts on the 4th of july. We may even add another park or two to the list.
thrillrider Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 Just added cedarpoint to the list of parks. We will be at the point on july 3rd. If any TPR members are going to be at any of the parks on the same day, I would love to meet ya.
thrillrider Posted June 28, 2011 Author Posted June 28, 2011 Do the parks in the Dells offer ride tickets for the coasters? We are just popping in for the coasters and moving on, but don't want to spend the money on a pop band.
LoneRider92 Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Yes, you can purchase tickets for single rides on the coasters in the Dells. One thing to think about; at Timber Falls they charge $6.50 for one ride on the Avalanche, but for the wristband price of $19.99 you can get 5 rides, and you can get those rides in quick enough that you don't spend more than 10 minutes there. If you want just one ride, go ahead and buy a ticket, but Avalanche is like potato chips; Betcha you can't do it just once!
KCForce Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 What?! You're not going to do Silver Dollar City in Missouri? Powder Keg is awesome! Wild Fire is very good too. And Thunderation. And there's a whore credit too. This is one of the best theme parks in the U.S. They have other great rides too. You won't be able to ride Hell Cat just once. There has never been a line anytime I have gone. It's a very underrated coaster. Oh, and if you wanted too, you could come to Union Station Kansas City in the morning before you go to Worlds of Fun and check out the historic working model coaster exhibit of WOF's first 5 roller coasters that are now gone, it's free and pretty cool! (I'm sending you a pm about that.) Peace, KC
thrillrider Posted June 28, 2011 Author Posted June 28, 2011 Thank's for that info. We will have to do silver dollar city another time, as our schedule is already set. Sdc is 6 hours more driving. Btw, does anyone know if coney island in cincinnati sells ride tickets or pop? There website does not have too much info. I thought someone said they sold ride tickets, but can't seem to find it on there website.
