braztaz Posted September 23, 2010 Author Posted September 23, 2010 1996 There were no new additions for the 1996 season after the major addition of "Nightlight". But, the following year... 1997 "Haunted Run" SCR119.BMP "Haunted Run" is a dark ride complete with thrills, screams, and spooks! Special effects will send guests into a mansion haunted by ghosts, ghouls, and more! Once you enter the towering mansion located near the pirate ship ride, you know you're in for a great time. SCR120.BMP The backside of the building is not eventful nor scenic, just a mechanical tech area. Opinions welcome! "Haunted Ron": New for the 1997 season.
djbrcace1234 Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 I like the concept, but the excution still could be refined. Rightnow it just looks like random roofs all over the place. My suggestion would to look at similar rides like Boo Blasters on Boo hill, or even the Haunted mansion at Disney parks. It would make it look a lot better in my opinion, but of course, build what you want to build.
Mastersax68 Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 I don't like the name Nightlight for a big Intimidating coaster. Try Intimidator, or something, haha.
Yamez Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Just a suggestion: Windows on the mansion would be a good addition.
braztaz Posted September 24, 2010 Author Posted September 24, 2010 I like the concept, but the excution still could be refined. Rightnow it just looks like random roofs all over the place. My suggestion would to look at similar rides like Boo Blasters on Boo hill, or even the Haunted mansion at Disney parks. It would make it look a lot better in my opinion, but of course, build what you want to build. The first screen includes the actual themed area, but I found it unrealistic to theme the back of the ride that no one will see, except for mechanics, right? But the bottom left of the second screen was just random roofs to make sure it wasn't glitchy. Top right of the same screen was planned. @Mastersax: Try something a little different every day, you know? @Yamez: There are 4 windows in the first screen Thanks for the opinions!
braztaz Posted September 26, 2010 Author Posted September 26, 2010 1998 Here it is, the tallest structure at the park, much higher than the previous peak, Nightlight at 95ft. Have you ever wanted to know what it' like to climb up 150ft....only to drop back down again? Make a visit to Grand Grove this 1998 season, and your wishes will come true. Located in an expansion behind the entrance to "Wicked Woodland", " Freefallin' " will have you screaming for more of it's 150ft ascent and descent. SCR122.BMP As guests enter the queue, they are treated to the music of Tom Petty's " Free Fallin" '. (For opening day, the song will be played throughout the park as well.) The new ride makes a huge impact on the skyline, and adds to the collection of scream machines Grand Grove has to offer. Freefallin': New for the 1998 season Grand Grove, Kingstree, SC, USA SCR123.BMP Opinions welcome!
Dotrobot Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Awesome awesome awesome.. Improvement is on the way.. Close to a breakthrough
braztaz Posted September 26, 2010 Author Posted September 26, 2010 Thanks, perxsonally I think those are the best buildings I've ever done! Oh, and... grand grove.wmv A teaser
Kraken & Manta Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 First, that video was made very well! Can't wait for the coaster! Second, the park is great! You are really getting better from the last park you had! Good job, and keep up the awesome work!
djbrcace1234 Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 The video made me laugh, but it would be nice to see an Arrow Hyper.
jjune4991 Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Nice blue overlay on Magnum. Pretty sweet for a teaser video. Can't wait to see how this coaster turns out.
braztaz Posted September 27, 2010 Author Posted September 27, 2010 @K&M: Thanks! It really means a lot! @DJBRACE: Just a sloppy promo I decided would be fun to put together @JJUNE: You figured out my secret! Thanks! Since this is Grand Grove's first major expansion since I've really started to focus on atmosphere, I decided to get a little suspenseful buildup! You'll find more of these teasers scattered about this week, each revealing a bit more about the coaster, leading up to the official reveal announcement. Opinions, thoughts, predictions...everything is welcome! Grand Grove Promo #2.wmv
djbrcace1234 Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 (edited) The name is so Blue Thunder Or Blue lightining. d: Edited September 27, 2010 by djbrcace1234
Kraken & Manta Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 I predict... a blue roller coaster Again, really awesome video can't wait for it to be finished
braztaz Posted September 29, 2010 Author Posted September 29, 2010 @DJBRACE: Close! @K&M: Thanks! It will break one record. Who wants to guess what it is?
QueerRudie Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Very cool how you're using the videos similar to other parks- I'd guess (based upon the view posted) you're going for a record length to the ride itself. I'm curious to see what you're turning out for this ride itself! R.D.
braztaz Posted September 29, 2010 Author Posted September 29, 2010 I planned to have the announcement Thursday, but my two soccer practices were cancelled today and thus, since I feel like the area has been finished, here it is: Stats: Blue Abyss at Grand Grove in Kingstree, SC 175 feet tall 160 foot drop 150 foot second hill 130 foot pretzel turn Large helix 5,908 feet long: (LONGEST ROLLER COASTER ON THE EAST COAST!) Constructed by: D.H Morgan Manufacturing Opens opening day, 1999 season This is the fourth "hypercoaster" ever built by D.H Morgan Manufacturing, the first three being Wild Thing (1996, Velleyfair), Steel Force (1997, Dorney Park), and Mamba (1998, Worlds of Fun). Although not particularly a hypercoaster with a drop of 160ft, it has the same features and thrills as any other (Many may prefer it over the others by Morgan!) The park could not escape the height waver placed over them with a limit of 180ft. blue abyss 5.bmp A body of water separates the coaster from the rest of the park. overview.bmp The coaster gives the feeling of traveling out into uncharted territory by flying over water, forests, and hills. island.bmp With Six Flags Majestic Lake in Greensboro, NC only a three hour drive away (which installed a hyper out-and-back woodie in 1997) it seems Grand Grove is working to beat it's competition. They hope "Blue Abyss" will help put them on the map, even more-so than it was. queue.bmp We are proud to announce that the Blue Abyss queue has been FULL for the entire season! Excluding some summer weekdays, the wait may exceed 1 and a half hours. But, the views from the line are spectacular- you're taken directly under the massive structure, over a scenic lake, and right next to the last few bunny hills. Behind the queue, a small plaza with shops, arcades, and more has been added. Blue Abyss, new for the 1999 season Grand Grove, Kingstree, SC And to add to this huge update....Grand Grove has given us the scoop on it's plans for future expansion! (Sort of) Let's take a look... GRAND GROVE: After the addition of Blue Abyss, we here at Grand Grove are pleased to announce our major renovation/expansion plan. Starting in 2000, this three year plan will keep you screaming until 2002, where we will reveal the biggest expansion of them all. So stay tuned as we release more details about what's coming in 2000, 2001, and 2002. We will give you this mus information at the moment: The 2002 ride will be a new prototype, and will definitely bring in more tourists from farther away. ---- Thus ends the massive update for the 1999 season. 1. What do you think of "Blue Abyss" and it's surrounding additions? 2. What do you expect from the three-year expansion plan? -Braztaz
Dotrobot Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 I'm not sure about that double helix. But it looks really good overall. I LOVE THAT little plaza. Not sure about the building with the red top though. That building on the very left is really good. Awesome improvement. I expect some more flats and a terrain hugging woodie. That would make me a happy man. And put a little 1/4 wall around the edge of that fountain. If it rains you don't want it to overflow.
the ghost Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 I really like the new area, but I suggest raising the boarders around the fountain so the waters not sitting on the very top... it just looks more real that way.
djbrcace1234 Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Ahahahahaha. :') Love the refrence of my park. I'm sure it will boast some needed attendance, because coaster wise I think the park's are the same. Untill the 2000's that is. Nice addition to begin with. The coaster looks like fun, and that is all that should matter really. The plaza has to be the BEST addition yet, and the best screen by far. The only thing about the plaza is that fountian is a bit big, height wise that is, but nevertheless, I see improvement. Splendid job here, Braztaz.

I knew you'd like that A little friendly competition sounds fun to me. And thanks, that's what the majority of my work went into: well, that and the coaster. Thanks to everyone else who replied, and yes I fixed the fountain problem, so no worries on that one.
braztaz Posted October 4, 2010 Author Posted October 4, 2010 TWO-YEAR UPDATE: Part 1 of GG's "Three Year Millennium Expansion Plan" Hello, all. After the massive success of Blue Abyss, the park's officials realized they were on the right track to becoming one of the best world-class theme parks out there. If they continued to develop and construct rides the public would only dreamed of riding before, then tourists from all over the nation would give them a visit. The three-year plan will help contribute to that in every way possible, by reconstructing the park's atmosphere with kid rides, thrill rides, and more. Each year (2000, 2001, 2002). This post will cover the additions that took place in 2000 and 2001- the years before the largest investment Grand Grove made in it's history of nearly 25 years. (Although it was SBNO for 10 of those!) 2000: "Ultima Kid Land!" This new just-for-kids area is bound to bring the families in. With a Frog Hopper, "Crazy Feet" (Fun/Crooked House), and the "Ultimate Kid Land"...what kid wouldn't want to pay them a visit? The large building that overlooks the area is similar to a Chuck-E-Cheese- except it's free! (With admission to the park, of course!) It holds ball pits, arcade games, you name it, everything and anything there is to keep your child busy. The area also is overlooked by "Blue Abyss" which will provide you with some amazing views. "Little Rover" is a junior coaster that provides "thrills" for those younger ones. With this ride, it makes the total GG roller coaster count at 5- not too shabby! And now, year 2... 2001: "Expedition Fear" Just across the plaza/entrance to the kid section, the 2001 additions gives thrills with fire, water, and jungle effects you won't get anywhere else! "Expedition Fear" is a Top-Spin exploring it's way into Grand Grove in 2001. Pick up your souvenirs next to the entrance ("Expedition Fear: I survived!" T-Shirts) and make sure you give it multiple visits, for it packs a lot of thrills in a little ride. Spectators can watch from afar as their family and friends face their fears. 2001 Grand Grove, Kingstree, SC And now, I have this question for you... What do you think the new ride for 2003 will be?
dmaxsba2408 Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Sorry I haven't commented much lately been a little busy (that SORRY also goes to all the parks that I had been following). But wow was I happy to just pop in here. Braztaz buddy, I am very impressed with how much this park has changed since I saw it last! Great job on the buildings. The Frog Hopper and its surroundings are perfect, loving the layout of Little Rover. The only thing I am not excited about is the far end of Blue Abyss. From the picture it looks just a giant mess, the rest of the coaster and the station look great.
djbrcace1234 Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Still looking great. It's so exciting to see how much you're improving, and in such a small amount of time! Cute little kiddy area.
Mastersax68 Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 I pretty much agree with dmaxsba and Dj about this park. Great job so far!
