Alveys and rest of you kids...I have questions about Haloween in Orlando.

A) Are "Not So Scary" and "Horror Nights" really worth the additional cost?

B) How are the crowds mid-october at the parks?

C) Where would you suggest to stay? I dont mind doing a bit cheaper

any and all advice from you all would be appreciated

A) I can speak for HHN and its definately worth it, as well as an express pass for the event!

B) I hop from IOA and HSF all day on some days and was bored mid afternoon, its not that many people there because the students are in school by that time.

C) To be honest, it really doesnt matter where you stay in the area. Most hotels have free shuttle service to the parks (im speaking universal parks and area), and even some have transportation back and forward to HHN.

I suggest to get to HHN early as possible! Oh yeah, and to have LOTS of fun!!

1.) MNSSHP and HHN are very very different, the later being scary loud and flame filled and the first mellow and candy filled. Both I think are worth your money.

2.) The beginning of October until Thanksgiving is probably the third best time to go, after September and January.

3.) Theres about 9 billion hotels in the Orlando area. I'm sure you will find one.

HHN is AWESOME... avoid the Friday and Saturday and you'll have a blast. Also Not so scary is nice but don't expect scares... I'll be visiting both this year

Low (as long as you avoid weekends)

Our trips going to be oct 17th-22nd...manily driving down from dallas to lauderdale helping a friend move. GF and I are tilting towards HHN as we we like the grownup scary feel. Erik, sounds like a kickass idea. Great photo op and fun as well.

In addition to what everyone else has already said, I have to emphatically endorse the "stay and scream" option. If you're already in the park during the day, you can go to a special holding area (usually a restaurant) inside the park. You'll get released from there usually a bit before they reopen the main gates to the park, thus giving you a sweet edge on the competition.

Last year we stayed in Captain America's Diner, had some badass cheese fries, then managed to do the first house and get multiple frontrow rides on Hulk before anyone else was around (at one point, Hulk was running with only three people aboard).

Now, last year was also a little screwy because of the two-park thing (we were pretty much stuck in Marvel Superhero Island/Port of Entry while they finished prepping the cornfield area), but I think this year will be much, much smoother.

And again, get those Express passes. You can buy them now on the site and print your ticket at home. They're worth every cent.

If you can afford it, do the HHN VIP tour. You get true front of the line access to the haunted houses. You don't have to wait in an Express line. You just go up to the front of the line! Also, the VIP tour guides are very knoweldgable and can give you some behind-the-scenes stories and insights to the houses and the rides.
