jedimaster1227
http://www.amusementtoday.com/ Raging Waters unveils one of our biggest and best attractions yet for the 2010 season…Dr. Von Darl's Tunnel of Terror! This amazing new water “dark” ride is the first one to be built on the West Coast with only two other rides existing in the entire nation. Dr. Von Darl's Tunnel of Terror will offer thrill seekers and brave hearts the water ride of a lifetime…in complete and total darkness! You’re not afraid of the dark…ARE YOU? This exciting new “dark” ride begins at the laboratory of the sinister Dr. Von Dark. Two test subjects board a special “whirly tube”, facing in opposite directions that force the tube to spin while it slides. Without warning, they plunge into total darkness and down a breath-taking 40-foot drop. Riders accelerate at lightning speed through a pitch-dark tunnel, when out of nowhere the bottom of the ride completely drops out! Careening wildly, the tubes are propelled back and forth up the steep banked sides while spinning the whole time. With a watery blast, they enter the upper hemisphere of the fully enclosed Tornado Funnel and are catapulted through back-to-back "vertical" banks, spinning two complete 360’s while being held by the tornado’s powerful centrifugal force...all while in total blackness! Riders are then jettisoned down the mouth of the funnel, down towards the certain doom that is projected on a special effects water curtain completely covering the only escape route. There’s no other choice than to meet your fate at the rides thrilling climax. Ride facts: Cost in excess of one million dollars As high as a four story building Nearly 300 feet long with 28,000 pounds of fiberglass 5,000 gallons of water rush through the ride every 60 seconds Enclosed tubes are wide enough and tall enough that an elephant could actually walk through Raging Waters San Dimas is California's largest waterpark , ranked nationally by the Travel Channel in its Top 10 ranking of US Water Parks. With over 36 slides and attractions plus a big sandy beach set in 50 beautifully landscaped acres, there is outRAGEous fun for guests of all ages. Jew
Hooray for a tantrum coming to so cal! I've always been impressed by the tantrum concept, and to add themeing? Sweet!
rcdude
Looks like I know which waterpark I'll be visiting next year. If this is anything like the full size tornado slides it should be a lot of fun.
Jerrykoala2112
I am curious to what the raft will be. I see something like a round 4 person raft and I also see a 4 person raft with each seat divided...?
nursemelis374
It says "two test subjects" so I would think they are 2 person rafts.
ebl
^ It also said that it was wide enough for an elephant to walk through, so you never know... Eric
jray21
Never been to that park, but I may have to finally stop by for a visit this year. I know that the decision for which rafts are used is usually decided by a consensus/combination of the park, the insurance company, and the manufacturer. When our park, years ago, got a half-pipe, we had all three groups watch over 100 rides with different tubes and configurations. We used all the tubes available at the time, and rode in all different configurations. We would sit front facing, rear facing, facing each other, facing away each other, heavy in front/middle/back, two heavy people configurations, and on, and on, and on. Since each ride is unique, and the water pressures/volume are unique to each park, each and every ride had to go through this "testing." But everything was subject to change. Throughout the years we continued to change the tube configurations. For example, we found that single tube riders tended to crash at the bottom, so we took them out. We also would find that different weight setups worked better, so we would change those. So, overly long stupid post short, it probably won't be decided until right before it opens, and even then, it could change throughout the year. Can't wait to try it though! crazywolf88
They're using whirly wheel tubes, they used it on the New York version and the special effects are pretty cool, a hint of advice ride it more than once i've ridden it 6 times just to get know my surroundings. If you have a waterproof flash light bring it but not on your first time. I'm doing that next year. The San Dimas ride looks like this... final twist the funnel and in-run
