Anac0nda Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 So has another legendary Vekoma Whirlwind come to it's end. In the pic you can see it's missing a few parts of the track in the lower left corner, and there's some track lying around in the car park in the lower right corner. Most probably it will be sold to somewhere else, as Vekoma had a pic of Korkkiruuvi in their previous website selling used coasters. We have started to speculate about Korkkiruuvi's follower in the finnish forum, as the park owner has released that there will be a new coaster with a height restriction of 120cm of 4 feet, which is the same as Korkkiruuvi had. The thing about the coming track is that there's not that much space. Even if the flatride Hurricane is to be moved somewhere else, there aren't that many possibilities for a coaster, as can be seen from this pic: So far (we have known this for only a couple of days) we have thought about a Zamperla MotoCoaster and a Vekoma Stingray.
eddie200330 Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 That Intamin invert looks pretty cool, why don't you find any full circuit rides like these in the US, with the exception of Volcano?
Shavethewhales Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 I'd put my money on one of those newer Vekoma family suspended models, since they're so popular and fit in small spaces. Either that or a euro-fighter, depending on what crowd the park is trying to attract.
DBru Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 I'd put my money on one of those newer Vekoma family suspended models... But the park has a "suspended" coaster right next to that location. And this isn't Six Flags.
cfc Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 After having ridden this thing last June, I'm pretty sure that the park can improve on it without too much trouble.
Anac0nda Posted October 15, 2009 Author Posted October 15, 2009 A member of the finnish coaster forum has taken a few shots of the trackwork of (now former) Korkkiruuvi. Just scroll down the page below. You can see the track has become a bit rusty... Clicky
willh51 Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Memories of Whirlwind at Knoebels... It's probably end-of-the-line time for these anyway. Not too thrilling compared to its newer brothers but I did enjoy this model when I was first getting started on coasters. Always thought the 1-train capability was funny, but I guess the ride is approx. 48.1 feet long.
