Here is where I am at so far.

Track is done, aside from a few tweaks I need to make because of the longer trains; I'm using Millenium Flyers in stead of PTCs due to wheel hits.

Supports are going to be a mix of pre-fab and custom. The main structure will be prefab and all the reinforcement for turns and such will be custom.

Screenshot time!

This kind of reminds me of Prowler a little bit.

Are you going to make the terrain hilly, so the ride can "hug the ground?" I think that'd be cool.

Posted

Roughly a third of the the ride will be terra-formed so the track stays in contact (or near enough) with the ground.

I was thinking about asking for testers actually, would anyone fancy having a look (in secret, duh) and seeing what needs tweaking?

Time for a big ol' update!

What do you think so far?

High speed turn

Posted

It looks a bit oversupported, especially that low turn. And it looks really weird with the wooden and steel supports, but you're changing that, right?

Posted

^^Thanks! Those alone took about 3 hours!

^The trains reaches roughly 3.5G in that turn, and given that the terrain is uneven I'm kind of compensating for that a bit. It might be too much, but it just means less maintenence costs and a better ride in real life! The train travels much faster over some parts than you might think! I may remove the outer beams on some parts though, and I am still in two minds as to whether or not I should use steel beams.

Also, this coaster isn't really being built in a specific 'style', I'm building it using different transitions, supports, and trains etc. to other companies. I feel it gives you much more freedom when you don't have to essentially copy certain things by certain wooden coaster companies.

^Hmmm... sounds interesting. I'm not sure about 3ds really, I don't know what kind of scenery would work apart from trees! You have any ideas?

Station? lines? shop?

UPDATE TIME!!

Nothing much to show for the last few days really, just some preliminary work on the supports for the next track sections.

Some parts of the track have been smoothened out more and extra segments added, which meant completely re-doing the supports on the high-speed turn. Darn.

Here are some screens:

A few finished(ish) ones!

^Raise the supports in the last picture upwards. The "top" rail on the turn is not supported and the ties between the rails would snap and send the train into the supports. Don't get me wrong though, the ride looks fantastic! I just thought I'd give you a little bit of advice on that last picture.

^Don't worry, once the main supports are in place it looks ok. I can see how it is misleading though. More updates coming soon, I am working on it as we speak!

Seeing as my 3ds guy is nowhere to be seen, its time for THE QUEEN MOTHER of all my projects to be released. Lol.

Jeepers Creepers!!

Height: 78ft

Speed: 48mph

Length: 3372ft 10in

Capacity: 850 riders per hour

Trains: Millenium Flyers, 20 rider capacity.

Don't be fooled by the trains; this ISN'T a GCI ride, it is just my coaster with good trains on it... they seem to flow better than PTCs.

Very good job with this. You did an excellent job on landscaping and support work. The layout itself was very unique and I was actually surprised by the part that went off into the woods.

There is only one part that I see that might need a little adjusting. The banking transition on the track as it is leaving the turn over the pond creates a short pop of red laterals. Other than that, I can't find any other flaws with it. Good job! This is one of my favorite NL woodies now.
