Happy Valley Shanghai - Newbie's visit 19th Aug 2009

Recommended Posts

Holy crap Fireball looks amazing! From the pics I had seen it seemed like a rather traditional out and back, but they switched it up quite a bit. The Happy Valley parks all seem to have great theming and it looks like this one is a little below par in places, but that mine train looks sweet.

To be honest, only your uber, die-hard roller coaster nerd would even notice the difference. When I rode Chimelong's Dive Machine I really thought it was a clone of SheiKra and then someone pointed out the minor differences.

While riding it, I couldn't tell the difference between SheiKra and Chimelong, but then again, I'm not the type of person who analyzes every inch of track on a ride.

The Shanghai version IMO looks "close enough" to a SheiKra clone where I would call it as such. We'll be there in a couple of weeks to see how it rides.

I thought the coaster in chimelong had a big 360 degree helix right after the splashdown? I don't know for sure, but from the youtube videos I have seen of the ride seem to make it appear different in that sense. I don't know though, the only Divers I have been on are SheiKra and Griffon.

^ It might have had that, I'm not sure. Again, I don't analyze every square inch of track or watch youtube videos in an effort to dissect every second of the ride. Sounds like that might be more your thing than mine!

To *me* it *felt* just like SheiKra. Yeah, there were probably some differences, but nothing that I really noticed or that stood out.

Also - make sure you ride the Maglev train from the airport - you need to tick that box for sure!

Of course I'm riding the Maglev !!! I'm arriving 3 days before the Trip to visit Shanghai, I have a cousin who lives there. I'm really excited to ride the Maglev !!

Great report, this park looks very nice! I wish I could be there right now, I think some co-workers are in Shanghai right now too. I live in Bangkok at the moment and I'm hoping to make to Shanghai and back to Chengdu and Beijing before we leave Thailand.

About mine trains.... the mine train at Ocean Park in Hong Kong is one of the best I've ridden, a truly great ride with incredible views. My kids and I loved it! Robb has a video of it, check it out!
