Pufferfish
Hello, today was the Draft Day Party for the Carolina Panthers. I was not there for that, even though I think it might have been fun. Due to this reason, there was a fairly decent crowd at the park today. Most rides had over 15 minute waits with Cobra and Nighthawk topping one hour. The weather was a very clear day with a high temperature well into the 90s. This led to some very nice picture taking, but a very thirsty photographer. The main purpose for this TR is to show some pictures of a few rides that have not yet been added to the park index. I also have a couple pictures of the construction area for next year's addition. Well, onto the pictures. Beauty and the Boardwalk. Thanks for viewing! Comments welcome. Nice landscaping + Nighthawk's new paint job = very pretty picture. Starting with this picture i will now show you some of my best picture from the day that I am calling beauty shots. This one is Vekoma through a Vekoma. This photo was taken right outside of South Gate and shows the massive amount of parking lot fenced off. The fence stretches all the way from here to the ex logflume site. Goodbye log flume, I knewest thou well. Same with this one. Now just a couple of shots of the construction area. I don't know why really, but I like this picture. The yellow train is looking blue with it's new harnesses. Now we need to replace the ones on red. Even the sun knows how great Afterburn is by reflecting its light in a way to make the ride just glow. Now featuring these weird new seat separators on sliver side. Thunder Road. The beautiful PTC racing woodie that is with each passing year becoming more and more a GCI. Action Theater, currently showing Spongebob 3-D. I only got a picture of the sign because it was too dark inside to get a good picture of the ride units. That's the end of that segment, now back to your regularly scheduled programming. These are some pretty nice bumper cars. Full speed bumps on this are pretty forceful. Dodgems. It's actually a nice ride. Starting with Rocket Power Air time. This ride used to be called Gauntlet and had a better program. It's empty and waiting for you... Now for some of the rides that have yet to be included in the park index. Does this count as a geek shot? Going up. Screamweaver. One of the world's only enterprises manufactured by Intamin. Vortex... B&M goodness... And now for some pictures that I promised to a certain member who really likes enterprises. Vortex through the trees and the Arrow. Carolina Cyclone. The sun was at an awkward angle and created a very interesting effect. I like this picture, it looks pretty against the blue sky. Also, a warning, do not ride in the front car. The front car gives very bad whiplash. Everywhere else you can enjoy those massive Vekoma gs in smooth peace. We'll start with this "new" coaster, Carolina Cobra. I actually really like this ride. It actually looks like it belongs in the area and gives a very decent ride.
Schmoofy
Very nice report! I'll have to make it a point to visit Carowinds this year on my drive down to Florida, it looks like a really nice place.
TheRapidsNerd
Hmmm...that's a big area all fenced off. It'll be interesting to see what becomes of it. Enjoyed seeing this bit of Carowinds. Thanks for putting this up.
dresdenoberst
They did the same thing, blocking the south gate parking lot, when they built Top Gun/Afterburn. The pics look great.
Six Flags Enthuseast
Nice pics. The last 2 are pretty, and now I know what the park looks like! I'll consider a visit.... wonder if anything new will be coming, small flat, coaster, something nice.
Crazy_Behemoth_Lady_Jess
Love the "vekoma through a vekoma" shot. Very artistic. As for the weird seat divider things, unfortunately they will be if not already are standard issue gear for PTC trains... Afterburn's looking pretty sexy with the new "blue" theming! In my opinion the yellow just looks too much like the numerous Batman clones. ~ Jess "Stop bastardizing the beautiful wood coasters with modern safety features" Chan
Pufferfish
^ We already had seat dividers on Thunder Road. The new ones are actually better than the old ones, they give more butt room. Also, Afterburn just got new blue restraints on the yellow train. The ride itself does need a new paint job though. The rails have gotten kinda rusty. Thank you for the comments everyone. DarkStitch626
Great photo's Andrew. The pictures of construction dont truly do this area justice though. The end of the construction zone in the parking lot is HUGE. At the end of it though the are widens out maybe for a twisting helix of death? Who knows at this point honestly. Though rumor has it the head honcho's have been laying clues throughout the entire park thus far. C3 this year with Q&A is gonna be really fun...may we not stress "hyper under the bridge jokes" lol. Though if this is a mega coaster... and its in that area. Its gonna be big but not under the bridge lol. Also for it to stretch all the way from North to south gate like it does..that is Iconic for a distance barrier. they use to have all of the side of TR closed off as far as parking goes because it was storage area for old parts of TR and all. Though if track starts arriving any time soon I hope to god they dont just lay it in the grass between the entry road and parking lot like they did for Borg's track. Pufferfish
Truely, I'd expect for us to find out what this is going to be at Coaster Stock. I really doubt they'd wait all the way until the end of September just to tell a small group of acers.
Jerrykoala2112
How long was the wait for Carolina Cobra?
Pufferfish
^ The wait for Cobra early in the day was around an hour, but as the day progressed the line got much shorter and ended up being 15 minutes when I was leaving the park.
Speeddeamon128
Awesome TR! Nice pics of the Vekomas together. If you have ridden an older boomerang before Cobra is there a big difference with the new train design? I've ridden Fly the Great Nor' Easter & the ride is still a crappy SLC to me. Pufferfish
^ The new trains really do make a difference. The restraints are pretty much just a modified version of the restraints on B&M flyers. It is very comfortable and the front row of each car feels very open. It truely makes it seem faster and more intense than it actually is, and the key point is, it's smooth!
