tedten Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Who knows what roller coaster has the tallest loop in the world? I've heard Dominator (135) and Superman Krypton Coaster (loop height not listed on RCDB.com). I know SheiKra has a 145 foot immelmann but as far as vertical loops go does anyone know if SKC or any other coaster in the world has a taller loop than Dominator at 135 feet? Just curious...
Manny In England Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I imagine it comes down to Tallest loop versus tallest inversion.
CreditCrazy Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I'm pretty sure Viper's first loop makes it higher than any others but Dominator's is biggest from ground up. Definately not positive though.
tedten Posted April 12, 2009 Author Posted April 12, 2009 I think its Chang at SFKK. Wrong. I imagine it comes down to Tallest loop versus tallest inversion. Well no, because that's not the question posed.
Manny In England Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 ^ Well the topic title is tallest loop so I think that is Dominator. In any case the question needs a couple of boundaries. Just vertical loops or any loop? Do you mean size of the loop itself or how high the top of the loop is from the ground?
tedten Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 as far as vertical loops go does anyone know if SKC or any other coaster in the world has a taller loop than Dominator at 135 feet? Just curious... I see the argument brought up by the old arrow loopers like shockwave was, and GASM, and Viper. I guess that part of it depends on how you look at it. With that in mind I would consider Viper to have the highest loop in the world at 144 and either Dominator or SKC to have the tallest vertical loop in the world. Can anyone confirm the height of SKC's loop or think of any others to top Dominator's 135?
ebl Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 ^ NITPICK ALERT! Viper's loop stands 140 feet high, not 144. Just for the record. I almost said that X2's first raven turn would be the tallest inversion---only it isn't an inversion, even though it appears to be. Riddler's first loop is 124 feet tall---definitely the biggest on a standup coaster, but I know later ones have been bigger. Eric
tedten Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 ^ NITPICK ALERT! Viper's loop stands 140 feet high, not 144. Just for the record.Eric Oh, RCDB.com is wrong then. It says 144' Nobody knows the height of Superman Krypton Coaster's loop?
Jds03 Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 ^ NITPICK ALERT! Viper's loop stands 140 feet high, not 144. Just for the record. Is that with or without the footers?
ebl Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 "RCDB.com is wrong then. It says 144'" (tgadams) I was at Viper's media day event and got a press kit. It says the first loop is 140' high, the second loop is 62' high, and the third one is 90' high. (I assume that's the distance from the ground to the highest point of the loop.) But that's why I called it a "Nitpick Alert!" Eric
tedten Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 ^ Haha, yeah. So, basically we've decided Viper has the highest loop at 140' (RCDB Fail). And that Dominator most likely has the tallest loop at 135' until someone can debunk this with the height of Superman Krypton Coaster's loop height or any other coaster with a taller loop. I'm curious if Dominator really is the coaster with the tallest vertical loop. Anyone know?
Wes Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Dunno how reliable this is but here you go https://www.freebase.com/view/en/superman_krypton_coaster Superman: Krypton Coaster is a roller coaster at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Designed by Bolliger & Mabillard, it is one of four floorless coasters to open in the year 2000 (the other three were Medusa at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Dominator at Kings Dominion and Kraken at SeaWorld Orlando). The coaster stands 168 feet tall, with the lift hill and helix extending over the bordering cliff. It also features the tallest Vertical loop element in the world at 145 feet (44 m).
tedten Posted April 13, 2009 Author Posted April 13, 2009 Thanks abunch man! That's about the same figure someone else mentioned as well, so I'll think of it as the world's tallest for now. Interesting how highest and tallest drops are ingrained into our heads but largest loops are far from common knowledge even for us coaster geeks. I probably won't make it out to SKC anytime soon, though it looks like an absolutely beautiful coaster. I'll be riding Dominator this summer though
Bolliger&Mabillard Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 ^The two previously mentioned are the best floorless coasters I've ridden
