Teacups Make Me Sick Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Great report...the buffet/show looks like a lot of fun! I always wanted to give Big Bird a big hug. Did they have a Barkley wondering around??? (he was my second favorite muppet) BTW---Did you know that the guy who does the voice of Elmo is a six foot tall black man? Who knew?
chemical_echo Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 The pics look great, seems like they did a really nice job with the theming. I would think they would've themed the castle more the Count, unless he's not really popular anymore. The photo with caption "Topiary Elmo was waiting for me . . ." should read "Topiary Grover was waiting for me . . ." Just look at your pictures of them, Elmo has an orange nose, while Grover has a pink one. It's also got the signature crazy eyes that Grover has. I think I've embarrassed myself for the day with that info.
cfc Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 ^Why, so it is--thanks. I fixed it. Looks like Elmo got a spire and a castle, while Grover got a coaster and a bush.
ebl Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 If this was Cedar Fair, there'd be all kinds of places for Oscar the Grouch to hide in... Eric
niiicolaaah Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Nice pics. I hated the new area though. Like how the scenery looks like big cardboard cutouts on ugly concrete footers, and the paths are very narrow. Like can't fit two strollers next to each other narrow. Also, why doesn't the queue for the coaster have handrails? When we were there, kids were wandering all over the landscaping, and I even saw kids pulling the buds off flowers and using them like chalk to draw on the planters. Great thinking, Busch Gardens. Oh well, I guess the cheap approach goes with the whole cheap approach Busch Gardens has going on for it. Another thing I've noticed is that they totally changed the food - Das Alpine at the Festhaus uses different bread and is only about 1/2 the size it was last year, and at the ice cream place in France, they no longer make the waffle cones, they use pre-packaged ones. One of the best things about Busch Gardens was that they never cut corners, but I guess that's going down the drain now!
TheRapidsNerd Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Great report on the new area and enjoyed the pictures. There's just something about "Drunk Grover" that makes me chuckle. Jokes aside, it is good see BGW get it's answer to Shamu's Happy Harbor and/or Jungala. Oh did Castle O'Sullvan bring back memories of the old Merlin's Apprentice type magic show from the 80's! Totally forgot about that until your pics showed the stage. Some great memories there. Also great to see Mr. Turner and Clint Novak.
Guy T. Koepp Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Awesome TR Chuck. I noticed you were able to whore the kiddie coaster before they started enforcing the "please ride with child" policy. ^^Sorry you were disappointed Nicole. The theming didn't bother me so much. For all it's 2 dimensionality, it was brightly colored and gave the feel of a monsters cartoonish playland. However, you pointed out something I noticed right off. The ques have no hand rails. I can totally see Busch spending quite a bit on clean up and re-landscaping with children running around in areas that they probably shouldn't. Guy "My kids will like it mucho!" Koepp
