Sir Clinksalot
I haven't seen any of the movies that weren't already out on DVD. Netflix is our friend. I'll have to wait a few months to decide if the correct movie won.
knottslover77
All I have to say is that The Curious Case of Benjamin Button got robbed by losing best score to slumdog. --Jay
cfc
Slumdog Millionaire - the most overrated film of the year!!! To me, it was nothing more than a mediocre, shallow, fantasy-style, unrealistic, 'love' story. I thought the premise sounded dumb for the Millionaire plot, but it wasn't that bad. It was everything else that was bad. I don't want to spoil anything for those who still plan to see it, but I kept checking my phone during the movie to see how much longer it would last. The problem with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was that the plot line was not believable. People may have been more interested if it were some kind of freak medical case, but its not. really, is that why you didn't like the movies? because they were “unrealistic”, because they weren't “believable”, because they were “fantasy?” sheesh! isn't that the whole point of movies!?! if you want reality go outside, go anywhere, but the last place you should be going is to a movie theatre! I agree with Tyler about Slumdog--it's a good movie, but I really doubt anyone is going to remember much about it in the next year or two. The plot was similar to one of those "good brother/bad brother" gangster flicks Warners used to make in the 1930s with, say, Jimmy Cagney and Pat O'Brien. i haven't seen Slumdog Millionaire yet, but, uh, what's wrong with the old Warners gangster movies, exactly? those are some of my favorite films of all time! James Cagney is a god! i might have to see this Slumdog Millionaire thing after all… I never said there was anything "wrong" with it. The "good brother/bad brother" plot is one of the oldest stories in the world (for example, the story of Romulus and Remus in Roman mythology). I was merely saying that Slumdog's story is hardly "revolutionary." I liked the movie, but it isn't something I would bother seeing again. As for your reaction to the other comments, I'd like to mention something Roger Ebert once said: If you like a movie, you'll accept it completely no matter how ridiculous the story is. If you don't, you pick it apart and won't accept any of it.
Erik Johnson
I wasn't as blown away with Ledger's Joker as some folks were. Yes, it's a good performance, but I think any other competent actor could've done it as well. (Besides, Caesar Romero rules! ) Then again, I'm getting pretty sick of Hollywood constantly "reimagining" Batman, so maybe I'm not the best judge. It is because you are a Super '60s Batman Fanboy! Let us see your Batusi.
cfc
The world is not ready for my Batusi. Maybe, someday, when mankind has advanced to s sufficient level of understanding . . .
JimmyBo
Slumdog is overrated and I think WALL-E got robbed by Slumpuppy for best song. WTF were the two songs they sang from Slumsheepdog anyway? A guy says 2 words in an entire song and the beat is the same throughout the entire song and he gets nominated? Then why the hell is Peanut Butter Jelly Time ever nominated? Sometimes I feel the academy doesn't doesn't give a sh*t anymore. Thank god Heath Ledger won even though I wouldn't be surprised is Downey Jr. won for Tropic Thunder (I'm a lead farmer mother f*cker!) The Curious Case of Brad Pitt's acting skills was a pretty good movie and I'm glad they won for special effects because I still am amazed at what they accomplished special effects wise for that film. Other than that...the stage at the Oscars was cool. Wolverine was an OK host...I'd rather see Robb host the Oscars
coolhandluke
I'd like to mention something Roger Ebert once said While I don't always agree with his ratings (I tend to generally rate higher than he does), I always read Ebert's reviews of movies. Love that guy. I'm not a fan of how one movie takes all or most of the categories it's in the running for. Seriously, Slumdog lost only to Dark Knight and itself. I haven't seen it, but I find it hard to fathom that it had better sound mixing than WALL-E, when WALL-E was almost nothing BUT mixed sound effects. I also thought "Down to Earth" was better than both Slumdog songs, but that is much more subjective IMO so I'm not too concerned about it. I guess I kind of get tired of the same pattern year after year. Titanic, LOTR, and now Slumdog...I kind of wish there were a couple more films held in serious consideration. Oh well. At least last year was a bit better, when No Country only took four (well-deserved) awards.
