Vekoma Fan Boy Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Ok, well for some reason NLDC isn't recognizing any of my projects as existing when I try to edit them, so for now, I don't have a link to an NLDC page, but I do have pics and stats posted here. This WOULD be my NLDC description, but since I can't edit my projects as of now I'll just post it here so I don't loose it. What makes this coaster so unique? Probably the fact that it will be a floorless coaster that focuses as much on speed and airtime as inversions and forces that winds down and around a steep mountain. Stats: Highest point: ~226-227ft Elevation change: ~210ft Length: TBD Trains: Number of trains TBD, probably 3 or 4, trains are 7 cars long and seat 4 abreast for a total of 28 riders per train. Maximum speed: 75mph Ok, now for a more post-appropriate description: I've been toying with the idea of a terrain coaster for a while, but have never really attempted it in NL because all of my projects seemed to be a failure to me in some stupid way. But, since I have entered engineering as my permanent shop in school, when we were discussing the problem solving steps, at one point my teacher said "If your solution doesn't work, it is NOT a total failure, the only total failure is something you walk away from." Which made something click in my head and made me want to go back to NL, so I went home that day, and started designing a small X Car coaster, and found that I can actually put out a decent product if I take a little bit more time. I have since become stuck with an ending to the coaster, and figured that I might as well start a new, larger project while I think about endings for the X Car. And after a bit of thought I settled on this idea. But, anyway, enough rambling, time for pictures! As of now, I only have the prelift and lift hill, but I will try (key word here!) to update the project every 1-3 days until its done. Right out of the station, you have a nice little 15-ish foot drop. (Colors are temporary) Then over a small bunny hill (still needs a little work to get a bit of floater air) and into the turn entering the lift Going up! Almost there... Uh oh... Comments and Criticism greatly appreciated! Also, if you would like, names and theme suggestions would also help, since I don't have much of a theme down aside from the whole mountainside thing.
Jds03 Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Looks nice, i love your concept and I can’t wait to see it come out! Just one question as of now: What's the circle thingy for?
thrillrideseeker Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Last time I saw someone use one of those circle things was to be able to make a "perfect" circle! Anywhos! I think the coaster is coming along well, I can not wait to see how this coaster ends up turning out! The one thing I did notice is that the trains are only 7 cars... Is there a reason for this?! I mean it just looks strange considering most are 8 cars!! ~Matthew
Vekoma Fan Boy Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 That is part of Loefets track shaping .3Ds objects, you place them in the editor, and rotate/scale them to your needs and build around them. It makes it much easier to build things like perfect circles, parabolic hills, etc with them if you don't want to use tools (which I am not for this coaster, it is going to be all hand built, heartlined, and smoothed). If you do a quick search for "Circle Builders" you should be able to find the thread. EDIT:^Thanks for the kind words, Matt!
coastb2 Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 The colors look way to circus like. Maby something like a nice natural green, or brown, something like that?
Vekoma Fan Boy Posted January 28, 2009 Author Posted January 28, 2009 Well, I've done a little bit of work, (though I haven't changed the colors yet) and I have the first inversion (a corkscrew) and the 'real' first drop. Which is 150 feet tall and gets the train going at 75 mph. It must be intense to be on a floorless coaster going that fast! Anyway, picture time! I love how I was able to run the first drop right under the corkscrew. (It might not look like it, but this part DOES pass the tunnel test!) "Oh god, are we gonna go down THAT?" "Yep..." Progress thus far.
Reon Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I'm loving it so far. It has a decent prelift, and that aproach to the big drop is in a word, epic. Please put up a vid once your done with this. I dont have/cant run NL, and I'd love to ride this thing.
Vekoma Fan Boy Posted January 28, 2009 Author Posted January 28, 2009 ^Thanks! And I will be putting up a video once it is done.
dr.gumbo Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 ^ Looking really good, I especially like how you put a little bit of creativity into the layout. As for theming, I think a horror type theme would work fantastically (IMO). Are you planning on using .3ds / Envirnments?

As for the .3DS objects, I'm not sure, I don't usually do .3Ds objects, I prefer to build most scenery with supports. (although if I needed them, I might make glass panels as .3DS objects, I just hate texturing and exporting with SketchUp/Anim8or) And I don't really know how to make my own environments, that program just doesn't seem to work for me. (Although, if someone wants to make one for me, that would be fine.)
Jcoaster Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 The Coaster is so far, as someone said before me "Epic"
rollerboy Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 ^ I second that! One thing though, the station looks a little high. Is there any chance of you lowering it? Jordan.
Vekoma Fan Boy Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 ^Its going to be terraformed. I'm holding off on the terrain until I finish the layout.
rollerboy Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 ^ In that case I'm sure this coaster is going to be awesome! I actually can't wait.
