King's Dominion and Busch Gardens

Recommended Posts

I plan on going to KD Memorial day and the day after. Then on to Busch the next 2 days. I find the best time to go to the seasonal parks are when they start weekday operations. Is this a good time for these 2 parks? I'm sure summer vacation has not start for schools yet. How is weather that time? Lines? Any help appreciated.

Thanks!

I can't say for sure what the crowds are like at KD during Memorial Day weekend, but I can tell you that the first week in June is a great time to go to Busch. Most rides should be walk-ons in the morning with minimal waits in the afternoon and the weather is usually very comfortable.

Last year we visited SFGAdv on Memorial Monday and the park was packed. The day before we were at Dorney and the park was close to empty.

The Wednesday after Memorial Day at KD, the park was pretty empty too.

The day after at BGE the same story : max 5 minutes wait for Alpengeist (but that was more because of technical problems), all the rest walk ons.

If you're going to hit either of these parks on Memorial Day Weekend, Memorial Day itself is the best day to go (at least that's been my experience). BGE weekday crowds are usually pretty small (unless there are school groups visiting).

The weather should be great--not too hot, not a lot of loathesome humidity.

Avoiding both parks on weekends in general is a good bet. Weekdays in the summer (especially early on) are fine.

During the week in the summer is not bad. The lines are always bad for Volcano, but thats just the fact of a long load time and its the star attraction.

I feel likes it gotten better with Dominator being added, not quite as ridiculous as it used to be at least.

I did Busch Gardens on Memorial Day in 2007 and the waits were minimal. Griffon was new and I think we waited about fifteen to twenty minutes.

In 2008, we decided to stop at Kings Dominion after a long holiday weekend and the place was dead and just about everything (but Dominator) was a walk-on.

The major problem I've encountered when going to KD on weekends is the traffic on I-95 southbound....it becomes a total parking lot from my neck of the woods to just south of Fredericksburg.

I'm sure that the traffic on I-64 eastbound is no better what with everyone in their mother making the pilgrimage to BGE & Va.Beach for the weekends, not to mention the various tourist traps along the way.

tanthonyam, keep in mind that Flight Of Fear does not operate Friday-Sunday, so if that is a coaster you are hoping to ride, consider not visiting Kings Dominion on those 3 certain days in the week.

WTF!

Since when did CF,and more specifically KD start shutting FOF down on weekends especially during peak season?Of course it's easy to figure out a possible reason as there are 5 launch systems between the three rides (V:TBC with 2,BL:TC with 2 & FOF with 1) all operating simultainiously on the same power grid for that specific section of the park but other than that it just makes no sense to close one of the park's signature coasters on days when potential ridership is at it's highest.

Now when I went to KD back in july FOF was running & had a HUGE line that would only move about five feet every 10 to 20 minutes starting in the outer queue, thus proving the ride was indeed operating on a saturday.Of course I didn't stay in that slow moving(more like no moving) line for very long before giving up & going on other rides during that visit.
