I don't know whether anyone can help me with this but a friend of mine has been given a rather specific subject in her film studies lesson.

She is looking for any information on character creation and how it has developed over time, particularly information about this for 'Finding Nemo'

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

Need more details. CG creation? Character development?

Hey, this is Yasmin (the friend lol). It's Pixar's character development I'm looking at specifically, and the techniques involved at each stage of this, as well as a little on the types of character Pixar creates. I'm also interested in looking at how the techniques have changed over time.

Any information you and/or anyone else could give me would be helpful, as I cannot find an awful lot elsewhere.

Many thanks,

Yas xx

Why dont you check the "DVD extras" on the Pixar DVDs, im pretty sure they will show how they developed all the characters.

Yeah, my focus film is Finding Nemo (which I think has some stuff like that), and my "related films" are The Incredibles (which I think has stuff on the storyboarding) and A Bug's Life (which I have on VHS so it doesn't have any extras). So yeah, that's good information to use, but I can't find much on the general process and how it's developed technologically.

Thanks xx

One of the first CG things Pixar did (if I remember correctly) were animations with little desk lamps. I cant remember what it was called, but they got alot of character out of those little lamps, and I think their methods over the years have followed on from the techniques they started with there. If you can find information on that, it may also discuss how they used what they had learned to developed their later characters.

^ Luxo and Luxo Jr. were the lamp names. It's one of the same lamps that appears before every Pixar movie.

That's a good idea, thank you (:

Anyone know anything on the actual software they use to develop the characters? And how it's changed since the early days i.e. Toy Story?
