hansrubens Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Hi everyone, Last week I went to two fairgrounds First I went to the fairground in the city of Hoorn. It's one of the biggest fairs in Holland. I think only Tilburg has a bigger fairground. In Holland the fairgrounds are just put up in the middle of the city center. The second fairground I visited was in my hometown. I will post the pictures of the fairground in Wervershoof later this week. Ok on to the photo's....... The cook almost fell asleep. Burger/Beer time. Airtime!! It just fits between the surrounding buildings. It went fast and it had a five minute ridecycle. The extreme. Entering the last part of the fairground. Looking back. You had to fight fires here but it wasn't popular. Birdcage the ride. Random carousel It's a haunted house with three floors. Get your tickets here. She was big. Almost midnight. ^ Kiddie credit. ^ It was beautiful at night. Monster. European Bumper cars. Buggy ride. So here is part two of the Fun house. Fun House. Can't get good pics of it cause it's to close to the surrounding buildings. The insanely fast break Dance. My Back did hurt for about two days. This is the lamest ride I've ever seen. There are plenty of kiddie rides. Slush bar. Camel derby. ^ Between the big rides the smaller ones are packed together. At 78 miles an hour. 180 feet tall. My favorite fairground ride. Ahhh. They seem a bit more relaxed now. First drop goodness. Yeah rollercoaster time. It's an 200 feet tall chairswing. Around the World. I always skip those rides. A breakdance that goes upside down. Kermis is dutch for fairground. Map of the city. As you can see the fair swirls through the center of the city.
FLIPDUDE Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Wow!!! That is amazing! a fairgroudn jsut setting up in the middle of the street! I wish we had traveling fairs here, they look like so much fun
coasterstud522 Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I think in your case the break part in break dance explained the whole ride. Looked like you ahd a fun time. You think I can fit in your suitcase next time??? I would love it if they did that ANYWHERE around here.
Hand 0f Time Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 That looks like alot of fun there! I must say, you'd think the electric bills for those carnival rides would be exspensive? Seeing all those bright lights on every part of every ride. >.<
thrillerman1 Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 I love how the rides are crammed into the city streets. Looks awesome! Thanks for sharing.
VivaLaVibora Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 It doesn't look too bad for a fair, or carnival. The flying things is in Florida and in Michigan a smaller one, KMG Afterburners are all over America, a Polyp is in IL, a breakdance was at the Ohio State Fair, and at some amusement parks, and there is a Magnum ("upside down Breakdance ride") at the Florida State Fair. I would go if those rides were at my town though. However, I think over there, the prices are supposed to be really high, and they must not have POP.
ratdogg68 Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Man that was a great Fair PTR, love a good fair, there are so many crazy and fun rides. We have some lame fairs here in the U.S., European fairs look so much more exciting

Seeing all those bright lights on every part of every ride. >.< The electricity is supplied by a company that's named homan. The carnies must pay the city and that price is all inclusive.
hansrubens Posted August 22, 2008 Author Posted August 22, 2008 I would go if those rides were at my town though. However, I think over there, the prices are supposed to be really high, and they must not have POP. Yeah Hoorn is quite expensive with prices varying from € 2,50/$ 3,70 to € 5,00/$ 7,40. Polyp - € 2,50/$ 3,70 Extreme - € 2,50/$ 3,70 Wild Mouse coaster - € 3,50/$ 5,20 Booster Maxxx - € 5,00/$ 7,40 So if you only do the big rides it will cost you approx. € 30,00 /$ 45,00. ----Hans
DenDen Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Awesome report. This reminds me of church carnivals back in Pittsburgh, where a church would take over a city block, and just plop everything in the street. But this is on such a massive scale compaired to that. Again, just awesome.
Beeja Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Great report, Hans! The fair looks a lot like the one here at Leuven (that starts within two weeks) but we don't have any coasters, not even a powered kiddie! I really hope that'll change one day! Thanks for sharing!

That kiddie coaster was not powered. Maybe you can make a Tripreport of the fair at Leuven. ---Hans
Menghini Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Wow, nice pictures. Never knew Hoorn had such a big fair, I should go there some day! Though I've seen (and done) all the rides at the fairs of Groningen and Assen (at least: the big ones...): a little cheaper... Do you also have a kart track in Hoorn at the fair?

No not this year but there was a kart track last year. ---Hans
Cygnus12 Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Very nice TR! I love carnivals but I don't think I can call myself a real carnival fan until I go to one of those massive European funfairs! BTW, that 'lame' ride actually looks pretty nauseating!
hansrubens Posted August 23, 2008 Author Posted August 23, 2008 BTW, that 'lame' ride actually looks pretty nauseating! I had to look up for that word but yes it is nauseating especially that last part of the ride. I've been on it one time and I will never do it again.
hansrubens Posted August 23, 2008 Author Posted August 23, 2008 Funfair in Wervershoof is very small compared to the one in Hoorn but in Wervershoof it's all about fun and beer - a lot of beer. I took the pictures around 2-3 pm so it isn't very busy yet cause everybody is still tired from the night before. I didn't want to risk my cam so I have no night pictures but the last three pictures that I will post are from www.wervershovers.nl. So if you want to see more crazy pictures check that site. The funfair is divided in two areas. The first area is at the local mall and the second area is near the church. Well it's approx. a 5 minute walk to go from the first to the second area. Pictures...... They were all watching this crazy band. (taken from www.wervershovers.nl) Same place later that afternoon (taken from www.wervershovers.nl) Bar #3 (taken from www.wervershovers.nl) And my last picture. ^ Bouncy Bouncy. Skeeball. There is so much airtime on this ride. Just great. Craziness. There was a group that were all dressed up in dusters. And they were already drunk. Bumpercars On the way to the second area you pass many parties. ^ Fun house. ^ Casino time. Random. The sad Popcorn car. But it's more fun. No it's not as big as Hoorn. Bar #2 And they are off. 3,2,1 I've spent too much money here. Carousel. Mini cars. Kiddie ride. Candy store. It's still quiet at the bar. Amazing!! But he did. I never managed. I always try to get upside down. Himalya kind of ride. I never play those games cause Bumba is way too big to get. Arcade game She is having fun. Chairswing
Olov Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 I remember riding one of these rides at Hamburger DOM once and from what I remember it felt like we almost did flip upside down. Freaked the hell out of me as I wasn't expecting it to be such an extreme ride. One of the best rides I've been on.
