I wanted to do something that was a step above my previous story projects and had more depth and more of a central theme. The Colony tells the story of a girl who is heading to a new home... The Colony. The story is set hundreds and hundreds of years into the future. The Colony is told from a young girl's point of view as she heads for her new home in The Colony. The girl explains how The Colony came to be. She begins with its beginning. Billions of years ago, The Colony was home to a wide variety of wildlife. The Colony was a beautiful place home to beautiful landscapes. It was home to some of the most unique creatures in the universe. The animals lived together as one. There were no beings that endangered their lives. It was a peaceful place. I invite you to follow along as I post the chapters, to see what The Colony is all about.

We had to leave quickly. The colony started with a loud boom. Millions of us are now on our way to The Colony. Some left early, some did not make it out of our home. Today we know more about The Colony than we ever did. It was once a beautiful landscape... It was home to a wide variety of life. We believe The Colony had a very wet climate. However, the cool nighttime rains kept The Colony lush and green. We have reason to believe it was mostly made up of thousands of mountains... ...with rivers running in between them. Fossils indicate the birds were of the most rare kind... Chapter 2 coming soon.

coasterdude5 Posted June 13, 2008 Author Posted June 13, 2008 Chapter 2 Apocalypse Part I I'm not homesick. I hated home. I had no freedom. Dad was alive when democracy ended. I wonder what it would have been like... The earth began with a boom but it ended with a louder one. Yesterday seemed like the most normal day you could have in a dictated community. I lived in Raleigh, States of Euro-America. It was once Raleigh, North Carolina. We knew this was coming. We didn't know exactly when. The sirens began to sound... it was time. I ran past the old dilipated house that had been sealed off by the government during the influenza outbreak decades ago. I wasn't sure if we were going to make it to the AeroBach in time... It was coming closer and closer... it was really happening. I know some of my friends didn't make it to the ship. I'm trying not to dwell on it. It seems like we barely made it off of the ground before the whole area became engulfed in fire. The others had nowhere to go... It all seems unimaginable to me... that it's actually happened. Chapter 3 coming next week...
coasterdude5 Posted June 16, 2008 Author Posted June 16, 2008 Chapter 3 Apocalypse Part II I can still hear the screams... they're ringing in my ears. We nearly crashed in a city near the west coast. Those people had no chance... no chance at all. We knew the planet was near its end. This used to be a major river, and by the time of its end... it was down to nearly nothing. The planet was so dry... it simply cracked... vaporizing all of those who were still on it. We should have been more prepared. Unimaginable... Everything humanity has worked for... gone. This was the last picture I saw of home... of Earth. My home. But now we can only look forward... Chapter 4 coming later this week...

It was probably like heaven compared to the state my home was in when we left. If only it still was like this... Of course, science is telling us it looked like this... ...it could have looked quite different. We've been this is what it looked like, so I am inclined to believe them... I wish I could go back in time... to see the creatures that called The Colony home. I'm sure it was breathtaking. It probably had more flowing water than I've ever seen in my life. With no humans, it was probably a very peaceful place. ...but not for long. Chapter 5 coming soon.

But as time went on... the quality of life began to slowly decline for the creatures that called The Colony home. ...the packs began to slowly fade away. Scientists believe that the plants stuck around for a while longer... allowing for herbivores to continue living. Still, it must have been obvious the lack of animal-life. We believe The Colony stayed like this for another century. As time went on... it must have slowly turned into a "ghost land". As the last of the carnivores died off... things got bad quickly. The Colony began to "sour" so-to-speak. Now the plant life began to fade... slowly succomb to whatever was happening to The Colony. It was like The Colony slowly began to suffocate. Why? No one knows yet... But what soon happened would seal The Colony's fate for millions of years...
coasterdude5 Posted June 25, 2008 Author Posted June 25, 2008 Chapter 6 The Colony Ends We believe it ended over a period of 24 hours. It must have seemed like a normal day... ...and the night began with a boom. The creatures still remaining must have been caught off-guard. Science has told us that lava began to flow from all directions. Anything in its path was vaporized. These eruptions occured everywhere. Much larger than anything Earth ever experienced. It was probably similar to Earth's demise... everything went up in flames. They believe it continued in a constant flow for hours. I feel sorry for whatever life was left on The Colony. ...so much heat. As time went on... The Colony slowly went dark. The final chapter will be posted on Friday.
the ghost Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Not only is this very addictive, but it is also beautiful, I kind of wish you had made a film with this though as the story line is brilliant You have done it again and proved yourself to be one of the best designers these forums will ever know.

We can start over... no communism, no dictatorships, everyone is on equal ground here. Science has come along way, we are slowly turning The Colony into a thriving planet once again. It will take generations to complete, but one day The Colony will once again be similar to Earth. We will have to keep our planet in the best condition that we can. What was once a barren planet known as "Mars"... ...is now our home. The Colony is my home now. I am home.

But as I was initially editing the movie together, I quickly realized it wasn't going to work. I went ahead with the chapter-style updates that were originally going to be promo for the movie, and they turned out to be a hit. But last night I was messing around and started to edit together the footage I had. I liked what I saw and went back and filmed a couple of scenes and here it is! This isn't a full-fledged CD5 production, it is a short film. If you haven't read the story already, then it won't make any sense. Enjoy!
