jamesdillaman Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 If you're not a water park fan, there is not a heck of a lot to do. Very, very true. That's why I like IB more. They have more of a balance. HW has a really nice water park, but it's always insanely crowded. Second this. Indiana Beach is one of my favorite amusement parks in terms of setting and overall "fun" factor. They have a decent woodie (Cornball Express) and more variety of rides than HW does. I have never had a bad day at IB. Rumbler is great, but I'd rather spend a day at Indiana Beach than at Beech Bend hadns down. -James "And skip Kings Island all together until they build something new" Dillaman
milst1 Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 Could we do all 4 parks (HW,BB,KI,IB) in 3 days, or is that insane? We fly in late Friday to Louisville and out Monday evening. We've sent in registration for both HoliWood Nights and RumbleFest. Neither of us have ever had any ERT. I know, lame. I was trying to decide between BB and KI, but now people are saying IB. We're also assuming KK on Monday before the flight out. How would you do it if you had these parameters? Thanks, Martin
larrygator Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 IB is the best park by far IMHO. Typically the 4 parks could be done in 3 days but will be diificult within your time parameters: based on your flights out of Louisville and the event schedules. It doesn't make sense to miss any ERT time as you are paying a premuim for that privilege. The following might be possible if your flight leaves late enough on Sunday night: Saturday - HW (event) Sunday - KK in the morning, then BB late afternoon/night (assuming event ERT is at night) Monday - get to IB at opening for 3-4 hours That's the only way I see it being possible without missing ERT. You should only need a couple of hours at KK. You should be able to do everything at IB in 3 - 3 1/2 hours because the place is so compact. I know I was able to ride practically every flat and almost a dozen Cornball Express rides in under 3 hours while spending an hour in their arcade also

My only suggestion is to try to hit LoCoSuMo at IB right away if it's open. That's the one thing there that regularly presents a significant wait.

Jeez, that just seems like a crazy amount of driving, but thanks for the ideas. We'd have to leave from Beech Bend at 4:30AM and drive straight through to make the 11AM opening at Indiana Beach. And then it's 3 1/2 hours back to Louisville Airport. Dang. IB may have to wait for another trip.
spaceace12 Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I wonder how many tpr memebrs are going to HWN. With the poster, that would be 2 including me.
Guest Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I will be there with my husband and a few other friends.
SharkTums Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Another option that a bunch of us always did was to go to SFKK during the day of the Holiday World Event. But I would just save IB for another time. It's a nice park and easier to hit if you're in the Chicago area.
Yellow Jacket Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 I would chime in with the others about KI. Once they took the head bashers off Flight of Fear, nothing in the park, other than SOB, "actively" sucks. It is a more insidious passive suckage that leaves you unfulfilled without knowing exactly why. I would get a room as close to HW as you can. ERT on Voyage can be quite exhausting.
coasterdad Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Whole family going to HWN, camping it this year.
Goose Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 I'll be there. About a three hour down I-64 for me. I'd avoid the Comfort Inn just off the freeway in Ferdinand. Had the 'pleasure' of sharing the hallway with elementary school groups both nights. Kids were up at the crack of dawn both mornings running up and down the halls screaming before getting on the buses to leave. Camping is sounding like a really good option this year. Steve-
spaceace12 Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Whole family going to HWN, camping it this year. Awesome, I am camping too. Last year I had a great tent site. Literally walked outside of my tent 50 feet and be in HW's parking lot. Bad thing, HW weed eating at 6am the next Sunday. Good thing, go to bed and wake up to sounds of the raven and legend testing or running.

Yeah, It's not that I truly "hate" King's Island, it's just that nothing there really stands out as a good ride. They just have a lot of "meh" coasters and a few decent flats. -James Dillaman
