Hang And Bang Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 I'm contemplating a trip to Texas this March. I found a *great* deal on Hotwire for flight, hotel, rental car, the whole deal. I'll be hitting up both SFOT and Fiesta Texas for the first time. I'll be going through the week (Tues 18th - Thurs 20th ) (completely avoiding the weekend), but this will be spring break and I hear the crowds can get ridiculous even on weekdays. So, am I crazy??? I'm definitely not against ponying up the extra $ to buy Flash Passes. Any advice would be appreciated, especially from people who call either park their homepark, although really any advice would be great. Thanks!
Hang And Bang Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 Well, I went ahead and booked the trip, but changed the dates to Sunday the 16th to Wednesday the 19th. I'll fly in late Sunday night and back home Wednesday night. I'll do SFOT on Monday and Wednesday, and Fiesta Texas on Tuesday. Anybody got any tips on getting the most out of these parks? I'm pretty sure they're gonna be crazy busy.
SharkTums Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 You answered your own question in the first post. Get Flashpass!!! GOLD! You'll be fine. Hit any rides that are not on Flashpass first, then use it to its full potential! There's a thread on the main board about SFFT, San Antonio in general, and Sea World. Check that out too!
Hang And Bang Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 Thanks Elissa! *Heads to main board*
kraken613 Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Ill be going some time in the spring when we go to move to TX.
Hang And Bang Posted February 16, 2008 Author Posted February 16, 2008 I have another question... I know they're doing trackwork on Shock Wave at SFOT right now. Does anyone know if that'll be finished by the time I go? How laborious of a process is it to re-track an old steel coaster? I really hope it's open when I'm there!
SharkTums Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 ^I don't know the answer to that one, maybe some of our Texas Fanboys can help you out! I do know that I've seen Shockwave operate minimal hours compared to the rest of the park, so if you see it open make sure to get on it, it's AWESOME!!!
BarryH Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 I went to SFOT over Spring Break on a weekday and it was packed! Nearly every coast had at least an hour line. Good thing I had Q-Bot goodness. I went to SFFT on a Saturday and it was fairly packed. The longest I waited was 45 minute for Polergeist. I went to Sea World San Antonio on the last day of Spring Break (Sunday) and the park was pretty deserted. No lines for the Great White or the Steel Eel!
sfotkid Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Texas Fanboy to the rescue! Ok SFOT is going to be PACKED. Get there nice and early I'd recomend getting there 45 minutes before opening. When it opens its not so bad but past 11 it is hell. I dont know so much about SFFT probably the same though. Hope this Help! --David
Hang And Bang Posted February 17, 2008 Author Posted February 17, 2008 Thanks everybody! At this point I'm just accepting that it's gonna be insane and I'll just have to rely on Flash Passes for the coasters, which is where I'll be most of the time, anyway. I don't really watch a lot of shows at parks, and only go for the most interesting flats. I'll hope for the best with those. I do like to find quiet places occasionally to chill and take a breather, which can be hard when a park is packed, but oh well. At this point I'm mostly worried Shockwave won't be open. I found an online news report about it that says it will be open by early spring at the latest. I'm guessing that means April.
Hang And Bang Posted February 28, 2008 Author Posted February 28, 2008 I got confirmation that Shockwave won't be open until April. I just keep reminding myself that there are plently of other great coasters I'll be riding. But then I think of the awesomeness that is Mindbender and I get mad again. This is the first time I've planned an early-season trip. I've learned my lesson!!
sfotkid Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Yeah, Mr. Freeze, Titan (Much better then Goliath) and Texas Giant are all great coasters. At SFFT Poltergeist and Superman Krypton Coasters are some of my favorite rides! And contrary to belief I really don't think Mindbenber and Shockwave are much alike. Other then the pre drop there very different. Oh and if you need a riding partner for SFOT I'll be there also. Hope you have fun! P.s How did you get confirmation on Shockwave? - David
Hang And Bang Posted February 29, 2008 Author Posted February 29, 2008 At SFOG Mindbender is my second favorite coaster after Goliath. Even if Shockwave and Mindbender are not neccesarily a whole lot alike they are both custom Schwarzkopf loopers, which always have that certain 'something' about them. I'm really disappointed I won't get to ride it. I found out about the Shockwave opening from a guy at sfot-source.com. He's an audio lead at the park and knows a lot about what's going on. Of course I'd be more than happy if he is wrong and it'll be open when I'm there!
sfotfreak Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 I live within a mile of six flags over texas, i go as much as i can. I advise you to get there early and get the new Q2Q bots, i don't know if shockwave will be open but from the looks of it the track is done, i have not seen cars go round. I have also been to six flags fiesta texas, a really beautiful park with some great rides! Thanks
sfotkid Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Ah. Yeah I believe they might be doing a repaint also. And Goliath you secong favorite coaster?! You gonna love Titan. That extra helix makes all the difference! Hope you have fun. And sfotfreak, He said that they got confirmation that it was closed. And are you going to be there opening day? - David

sfotkid Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 I believe someday in May.. Dont trust me on that though.
sfotfreak Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Ok hope it opens quicker than that, we should meet up at six flags, i need a riding partner!
sfotkid Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Haha, Went to SFOT today... SFOT 093.bmp And Looky what I found!

Hang And Bang Posted March 10, 2008 Author Posted March 10, 2008 Looks like no Shockwave for me *crosses fingers that by some miracle the coaster is ready to go by next week*
