larrygator Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Let's all try to help The Alveys and their guests. The poster is clearly from a foreign country and probably does have a great understanding of where the parks are in relation to each other, which rcdb.com doesn't solve. We should do our best to be courteous to the Alveys new guest as he is asking Robb and Elissa for help. I'm pretty sure R&E don't want us being rude to their new guests. With that said. In Las Vegas, I would prioritize the attractions: #1 - Stratosphere #2 - Speed at Sahara Casino #3 - Adventuredome at Circus Circus (while not the most thrilling it is more ecomonical and less painful than #4 - New York, New York's coaster If you a driving from Las Vegas to to Los Angeles you will pass Buffalo Bills Casino in Primm, Nevada right before you arrive in California. This is the home of Desperado, one of the first 200 foot coasters. Between Los Angeles and the San Francisco area there are not any major parks until you are just south of San Francisco. In Santa Cruz you can find the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk (which is my favorite amusement park on a bordwalk in the US) and then Great America between Santa Cruz and San Francisco. I assume you also know about Disneyland, Disney's California Adventure and Knott's Berry Farms which are also in the Los Angeles area. I hope this helps

Mr.Six Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Hey! I think you guys would enjoy Knotts, there's a lot to do there for you guys. They have a good selection of rides , including coasters, family attractions, and flats. Don't be too turned off by recent reviews of the park, sure its operations are far from perfect but a lot of it comes from the compairson between how it use to be and how it is now. But for someone who's never been there I say without a doubt try to hit it. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. Hope you guys enjoy your trip! -Mike
darklingscribe Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 There are a few things to do on the drive between L.A. and San Francisco. While not a park related attraction, in San Simeon (half way between L.A. and San Francisco) you can stop and take a tour of Hearst Castle (not really a castle) a huge mansion built on top of a hill on the coast by the newspaper baron William Randolf Hearst. The mansion and scenery in which it sits is beautiful. North of there you can also stop off at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, considered by many to be one of the best aquariums in the country. There is also a smaller theme park a little way from Monterey called Gilroy Gardens. It has some of the best landscaping and well tended gardens in the Theme park world and also has some fun little coasters and flat rides.
Teacups Make Me Sick Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Whenever I do the LA to Vegas trip...I make it a point to see not only the worlds largest thermometer, BUT there is this fantastic restaurant..."The Mad Greek". The strawberry milk shakes are fantastic (who knew Greeks are known for there milk shakes) AND they have a great menu from Gyros to Burritos. MMMM...Grecian Burritos.
RAWKIN_coaster38 Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 I agree with what everyone has said so far but... Before you even consider going to Great America (I have a prejudice) go to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom (Between Napa and San Francisco). SFDK is a very fun park because it has both amazing animal exhibits and fun coasters. There is Shouka the killer whale, all kinds of zoo animals such as elephants and tigers, and lots of dolphins! For an extra $5 you can actually get to feed and pet some of the dolphins (the seals too i think) and sometimes they have special picture opportunities with the animals. If you do go, ride Medusa – the floorless coaster– it's fun and not too scary. I hope you have a great trip in California!
Sunfire Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Great America may not be the biggest park in the world, but it does have some good rides. For example, Top Gun (now called Afterburn) is a B&M Inverted roller coaster, which is very thrilling for its small height of 102 feet. The park I highly recommend is Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. It is a seaside park that has many traditional flat rides such as the Tilt A Whirl, and more new ones such as Fireball (KMG Afterburner). Its star attraction is the Giant Dipper, a wooden roller coaster with lots of airtime hills. I recommend this park because its rides are very fun and Giant Dipper is the best wooden coaster I have ever been on. I hope you have a fun vacation in California!
