Golfie Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Well, it's been a while since I've done a Photo TR (mostly because I just got tired of taking pictures, but I wanted to this time) Here are a few overviews of the day: -It was EXTREMELY HOT today! So about mid-day, we checked out one of the park's shows, "Show Stoppin'" which featured singing and dancing to popular songs. The singing was AMAZING as well as the lights which gave the entire show a very crazy and "alive" show. -At the beginning of the day and at the end of the day, lines were long, but they were moving at a steady pace. The ride ops were enthusiastic and quick which made dispatches quicker. HOWEVER, in the middle of the day, ride ops were falling behind. Sure, it was a FREAKING OVEN outside, but that doesn't mean you should be lagging around - you're getting paid to do this! Batman staff were sending out a train every 5 minutes, Raging Bull had 3 trains, but they were always stacking, and Superman... well, we just avoided it altogether. -I wanted to ride American Eagle just for the halibut, so we tried the blue track (since it's running fowards now). The ride really IS bumpy, and you can see the whole train shaking on all the turns, but it isn't painful. We almost passed out walking through the 9-mile queue, but there was almost no line for the ride (we just walked into the station). -On Raging Bull in the morning, someone lost some flip flops on the brake run catwalks... so a staff guy went and got them and everyone was happy (because they were the fun ride ops who were powering out 3 trains with absolutely NO stacking!) We decided to try out row 9 on Raging Bull, and it is INSANE! The ride seems much faster, plus you get whipped over the first drop. The turns offer some good positive G's, but I like the 7th row better because the first drop lasts longer. -I rode Iron Wolf for the first time... it was okay. I prefer not to stand in line, just to stand some more, get my head bashed around a LOT, and have my legs feel like they're going to explode from all the blood going to them. However, it's a fun layout, and the negative G's are REALLY fun when your feet come flying up off the floor. -I can never see on Batman because it's so intense, so I tried sitting further back (Row 6 to be exact) and OMG I COULD SEE! I'm definitely exctied... because now I enjoy the ride a bit more. -I also rode Deja Vu for the first time. It was only about a 45 minute wait (honestly not that bad, since the queue gives you different things to look at.) And OMG it was awesome! We got to sit in the last row - the last LAST row, so the backwards lift was so cool, and traveling backwards offered some nice forces. Not too much headbanging, and the backs of the headrests were the most squishy and comfortable I've ever felt. I felt pretty safe on the ride, considering I couldn't get my harness up afterwards! I would reccomend riding this at night, since all the lights around the park are just plain disorienting. -I think it was mass employee training day. We saw a HUGE group of Ride Ops being taught while we were on Triple Play, as well as some mascots being monitored while we were eating in the Firehouse. Marvin the Martian took our dirty trays and put them away - now THAT'S a mascot! Okay now for the photos... enjoy! I like this shot. I hope you enjoyed my PTR! The sky looks like it's storming... but it's getting dark out. Stupid camera! LOOP! I'm headed for Deja Vu and not even nervous... What's up, Ryan? We rode the Orbiter... it was fun, but REALLY weird! 15 years old and intense as ever. How many loops did I take pictures of?!?? I've found my new desktop! Sunset photos time! Pizza at the Firehouse - good as ever. I will give anyone who does this pose SUCCESSFULLY $50. Triple Play = Best Flat Ride at the park... if you can FIND it! (In a dark corner of Hometown Square) Back Row = G's all the way! Hi Demon. You need some pillows on your harnesses. Twisty paths, stairs, ramps, and some more stairs later... we're halfway there! "What? We're only a quarter of the way there? Oh, okay." "Come on, let's ride American Eagle for no reason at all!" It wasn't anything special... just cool to ride the first coaster B&M ever made. Iron Wolf gave some good G's, but had TOO MUCH headbanging! So I'm really nervous to ride Iron Wolf for the reason of which is unknown... BIG crowd in the middle of the day in hometown square - some wrestling dude came. I hope they NEVER get rid of Whizzer... it's one of those, "I want to ride a roller coaster, but I don't want to RIDE a roller coaster" coasters... get what I'm saying? Nice and empty station in the morning! FUN! Amazingly, I only took a few pictures of Raging Bull. Pretty! I LOVE Viper. It is THE best woodie I've ever ridden. Loopie through the trees. Demon, you were fun for the first four rides of the day, but then when you punched me in the ear... I'm not riding Demon anymore. OW! Two trains. look... closely... It's open... and I swear it's open for the whole day. It's a miracle. Hello Mr. Eagle, why you're looking quite nice today! The back of the park was barren. Yeti Ball + Tweety Bird = Tweety Ball Hey Derek. Is it just me, or does the ride just feel overall less intense than it did a while ago? Either way, it's a LOT of fun! See? Empty station! So we went to V2, since we see No-Linedness, and empy-stationness. Umm... that's okay. We don't really need to ride Superman today. Obligatory Carousel Shot Hey... the crowd doesn't seem too big today!
themeparkguy27 Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Great pics. The park was not crowded at all on Sunday. Most rides were walk-on's as the water park took 1/3 of the crowd out of the dry park. Not a bad day at all.
CoasterNut17 Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Nice TR! I just got my DeJa Vu credit a couple days ago also. It was great! Hope you had a good time!
Golfie Posted August 13, 2007 Author Posted August 13, 2007 ^^Yeah, announcements were being pumped into the park all day, "Attention Six Flags Great America guests, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor is reaching capacity. We advise you to come back later..."
Airtime&Gravity Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Nice Tr and photos, and especially true on the Deja vu ones with the extended shutter speed. Iron Wolf like you said is a nice coaster with a good layout, but there is a lot of head banging. If you ride front row, you can lean with the track which helps a little. The twisted airtime hill caught me by surprise the last time I rode it, but it is a fun coaster. It amazes me at how "old" most of Great America's coasters are, and rides are not built now like they were 15 years ago. The only good thing about AE's queue is that you don't have to walk the entire thing again to re-ride.
cobra_roll06 Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Hey man good TR! You took some nice loop pics! Derek will be pleased!
mcjaco Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 ^ This just in, Derek actually hates vertical loops.
Golfie Posted August 13, 2007 Author Posted August 13, 2007 ^^^Yeah, I saw that after the bridge from the exit of AE, you can turn left and get back onto the bridge back. I would've gone again, but I wasn't sure if we were allowed to go that way.

Golfie Posted August 13, 2007 Author Posted August 13, 2007 I also wanted to add that the final shot I had of Deja Vu was totally by accident. I actually had the "Night" setting on the camera, which leaves the shutter open to capture enough light for the picture to turn out. It's pretty fun to experiment with - especially when you have a laser pointer
