jedimaster1227 Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 by Scott Powers Orlando Sentinel blogs.orlandosentinel.com/business_tourism_aviation/2007/07/epcot-rededicat.html Until now, it was looking like the most ambitious Epcot 25th anniversary public event was being produced by Adam Roth, a remarkable 16-year-old fan from Celebration, with the help of some other Disney World fans. But now it looks as if Walt Disney World and Walt Disney Imagineering are stepping up, and will be offering some sort of "rededication ceremony" to mark the park's 25th on Oct. 1. Word has it that Epcot's planning to have dignitaries such as Imagineering legend Marty Sklar come in for the fun. When Disney officials announced in January that they were planning nothing public for the anniversary, Adam and some others, including Jenn Waitt, began organizing a privately-sponsored public celebration called Celebration 25, spelled out on Adam's website Dreamfinder Forever. They've been working with Epcot's special events office, and Adam advises now that they've gotten word from that office about the Disney-produced public celebration. Adam said Celebration 25 has 240 participants registered thusfar. Details of their celebration will be coming. The only things wrong with this article are that I don't live in Celebration, and we now have over 260 registered attendees. Just thought I would share this news with those who care to hear it.
disneyfan1313 Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Cool. But the article is a bit misleading - you guys have only been working with the Epcot Special Events office to plan your Illuminations desert party that you are paying for - not to plan any "official" Epcot 25 events that may or may not happen.
jedimaster1227 Posted July 25, 2007 Author Posted July 25, 2007 ^Actually, we have already planned the dessert party. The further arrangements to be made deal with the re-dedication that is being run by management that morning. We are taking part in this ceremony. This is the reason why our sign in table is going to close down 15 minutes before the park opens- so that we can be inside of the park by the fountain of nations for the ceremony.
Erik Johnson Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 ^^ Just make sure you bring your camera. Some of us will have to work on that Monday.
mcjaco Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 OK, after reading this again.... Don't mislead people. You're not "taking part" in the ceremony. You're attending it. You've set up private party to celebrate, and you haven't gotten Disney officials to suddenly step up to the plate. There's hundreds of Disney websites and blogs that have been pissing and moaning about there not being some sort of anniversary party for EPCOT. I'm not saying this didn't play a part, but there's a large enough group of EPCOT fanboys and girls that would almost force them to listen at some point. Not to mention that EPCOT has new management that may have already been planning this. It's still too little, too late IMO. They decorated the freakin' castle as a cake for cryin' out loud. EPCOT gets a tiny little rededication? Please. And what the heck does having to get tables down 15 minutes before the gates open have anything to do with being back by the Fountain of Nations?
jedimaster1227 Posted July 25, 2007 Author Posted July 25, 2007 ^^We will definitely take plenty of photos and video of the event. I will post it here afterwards. ^We have to "close up shop" so that we have enough time to get to the fountain stage where the re-dedication will be taking place.
Erik Johnson Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Isn't the removal of the wand good enough for the anniversary?
stingrock23 Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 At least something will happen, but for such a big event as Epcot's 25th the Disney Co. should have had something much bigger planned. Kick the year of a million dreams out the window and celebrate Epcot for the entire year, bring back retro merchandise, and even bring back Dreamfinder.
mcjaco Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Isn't the removal of the wand good enough for the anniversary? It's a start. I want SSE covered in frosting.
thefitness Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 I'm confused, let me make sure I have this straight. You convinced, and helped arrange a rededication ceremony for EPCOT? Is that right? What happened to Disney, Universal, and other larger entertainment companies not taking outside opinions?
jedimaster1227 Posted July 25, 2007 Author Posted July 25, 2007 ^We didn't talk anyone into anything. In fact, I only found out about this re-dedication when the Sr. Manager of Epcot Special Events called me about our event and she told me that there would be a ceremony taking place that morning. She told me that Marty Sklar and other Disney Imagineers are planning on being there. As far as our event group was concerned, we were only going to be at the park celebrating the event on our own. When I was given news of the ceremony, we tweaked our plans so that we could be there. We haven't done anything planning-wise for the event. It isn't our job, nor were we offered the opportunity. We are just taking part in the ceremony with a small possible blurb that one of us may read (or give a gift to management).
mcjaco Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 ^ That's precisely our point. He didn't arrange anything with Disney. It's their own private event. Disney has since decided to do a "rededication" ceremony on their own. The article makes it sound like Mr. Roth planned this. It's a poorly written and misinforming article, which is no surprise coming from the Sentinel.
BeemerBoy Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 ^ But he is "remarkable" afterall. I didn't need the Sentinel to tell me that though......my imagineer friend, Jim Morrison, Sammy Davis, and a naked indian told me that in a dream years ago.

Newspaper journalists really need to learn what they are writing about.(For Example) All of the high school sports articles I've read were ridiculous, and they obviously knew nothing about the sport. Anyways, It sounds like they twisted the truth to make the article even worth writing.
Wes Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Wow, that blog post (not even really an article) is VERY misleading.
