Yes folks, it's true, Astroland is safe for one more season!

Astroland will thrill until '09

This won't be the final summer after all for Coney Island's fabled Astroland PPark, The Post has learned.

Councilman Domenic Recchia Jr. (D-Brooklyn) brokered a deal to keep the rides in business in 2008, sources close to the deal said.

The park's longtime operator, Carol Hill Albert, had been expected to close Astroland after Labor Day so that Thor Equities, which purchased the park for $50 million last year, could clear the site for its planned $1.5 billion Vegas-glitz entertainment complex.

Albert and Thor will be working out the details of the extension in the days ahead, including compensation to Thor for allowing Astroland to use thje site next year.

The city is trying to find a new site for Astroland somewhere near KeySpan Park, the Brooklyn Cyclones' minor-league baseball home.

The historic Cyclone roller coaster wasn't affected by Thor's purchase and Albert will continue operating it through a city lease.

Actually, I typed it, I copied from the News Paper because I couldn't get the site to load and my mom and my sister were fighting behind me! I'll take care of it!

Parachute Drop was never a part of Astroland!

Oh, well excuse me for my ignorance.

Looking across the internet, it appears that it's mostly a travelling carnival kind of thing.

Whoops, sorry for the explaination point. It's a force of habbit. Astroland really is like a stationary carnival minus the Astro Tower, Water Flume and the Cyclone. Though Astroland does have the only Top Spin 2 stationed at a park in the US, which runs a crazy cycle. And the Break Dance never ends!

Yay! I have another chance to visit this classic place within the next 2 years!

Anyone know of the bumper cars with the "dance club" theme? That is THEEE coolest! Its not IN Astroland, but around it somewhere.

And don't forget a Tilt-a-Whirl that is still operated manually.

Also anyone planning on going to Nathan's while in Coney Island should go to the Nathans.com to print up buy one get one free hot dog coupons.

Well...the Cyclone is on a seperate lease that has 9 more years left. But when Astroland does close, it's in the city's hands!

I might accually get out NYC next year so maybe I can sneak in a trip while I'm there. I really wanted to go this year as it was closing year so I am happy it is staying open another year.
