Voyage

Recommended Posts

Hi guys from Ryan from the Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain.

For the first time I just had to post.

Just got back from a fantastic tour uf USA, and I must say it was a pleasure to be in your country.

Well where do I start?

I have just got to say I have a new number 1 woodie......."VOYAGE"

"Shivering Timbers rest in peace at number 2"

Wow""

Like I have always said to all my friends here in the U.K.

If you want to ride the best coasters in the world, go to America.

Hades, was also a fab woodie.

Wow you guys are real lucky over there

Waiting for your own personal views

Roll on USA trip 2009

I'll try not to be bias as I've only ridden a couple of woodies outside the US, but yes the independent parks in the US have some great woodies. I stress the independent parks. Outside of El Toro and Shivering Timbers, nothing from a major chain is in my elite class. Voyage, Avalanche, Cyclone, Phoenix, Thunderhead, Cornball Express, Boulder Dash and Silver Comet are all at indy parks. And then there are Rampage, Tremors, New Mex Rattler and Ozark Wildcat also at indies, but I have yet to ride them.

However, I do put Balder and ThunderCoaster in that elite category. Sorry, but I wasn't impressed with Grand Nash or Megaphobia in the UK.

Maybe I get to add Troy to the elite list this summer.

I agree the coasters in the US are far better than the ones in Europe, I have ridden:

Racer, Mean Streak, Beast, SOB, Blue Streak at CP, all gave a great ride in my view as these are the 1st big wooden ones I have ridden outside of the UK.

I have not been on "Balder" in Liseberg Sweden, but I can guess it produces a simular amount of to "Colossos" in Heide-Park Germany which is very extreme.

"Colossos" is Height: 196' 10" with a drop of 159' 1". I can't understand why it should loose so much height for the 1st drop, that's nearly 30ft difference.

The English "woodies" are of a dying breed, the coasters at Blackpool are very re-rideable and have a good layouts, they all need a lick of "White Gloss" paint to make em looks "classic" again. Come on BPB give your coasters some "love"....

The best Woodie in the UK is "Megafobia", as it was designed by an American company, it is built correctly and is an amazing piece of craftmanship.

I would like to see Thorpe Park install a Wooden coaster not a "Flying or Floorless" model for the 2009 season.

I'm sorry, but Voyage gets way to much glory. If it were any other ride, everyone would bash it for being too rough to enjoy.

Don't get me wrong, the airtime and pacing are incredible, but the second half gets too rough.

I think it's amazing. The chaos of the part after the hills is the best part. I don't really think it was that rough.

TOO ROUGH? Have you ever been on any other wooden coaster?

^ I'll second that. That was the only time I ever got off not wanting to get back on. As I was seriously hurting after that. However in any other row its an incredible ride and I still would never pass it up.... just don't ride row 3....

Row three is right on a wheel seat. One of the trains feels like it has a square wheel. I know I got one or two rides during HWN that jarred me completely.

I honestly just stick to the back car. Preferably, the back seat.
