pete4winds Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 So I went to the local carnival yesterday (first at 9:30 to drop my wife off at work next door), then at 11:00 (thinking it was open to coincide with mall hours...but it was closed until 6:00), then finally today at about 3:30 I made it during operating hours. Parking lot theming is one thing, but this place was ENTIRELY in the parking lot at the mall. The photos tell the story. Yes, the town line is in the MIDDLE of the Taunton River (which is about a mile across and 135 feet below us at this point). The Braga Bridge heading back home. The lesson here? If you must use your shirt to clean the LCD screen, shut the power off first. Heading home... The layout of Dragon Wagon...as if ANYONE has ever seen it before...this is a total exclusive! AAAHHH! It's coming to get me!!! Again, full height. Fairly depressing. Let's teach children the joys of road rage. That is one attentive ride-op. See what I mean about the height? Yes, I'm dumb enough to stand right under it. It was getting some decent height, though. I never quite got the point of the Egyptian theming on this ride. OK, so somehow I managed to get MOST of the Ferris Wheel in frame. The @$$-end of the slide. As were the terlets. If you even THINK I'm going to eat here just to add it to this PTR, you are SADLY mistaken...this place was scary. This fair was so tiny I couldn't even get far enough away from the Ferris Wheel to get the whole thing in frame. ...and from a little closer to the ground. Hello credit...from near the top of the ferris wheel... Parking lot, THROUGH THE...big round metal tree? You'll never know how great a kiss can feel, when you stop at the top of a Ferris Wheel, when I fell in love, down at Palisades Park...ing lot?. See? The epitome of parking-lot theming. The ultimate in parking lot theming...an actual, working, currently-in-use parking lot. ...and this was the entire rest of the fair, behind the ferris wheel. Yup, that's it. Dragon Wagon, THROUGH THE...well, I guess it's not really a tree. This was the entire fair in front of the ferris wheel... My token artsy-fartsy photo. CREDIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At full height...craptacular. Yup, they had one... Same Zipper, same trailer. Stupid tiny fairs... Wow...up another four cents! At least it waited until the next day to go up to this price. Alternate route? Through the church? HUH??? Wait, no, take a right AT the church... Jen's driving this time, so the car is much closer to "under control" than it was yesterday. Half a mile closer, and still the same exit. Still at the same mall. OK, second attempt, this afternoon. Still the same exit. Entering God's country...wait...no...that's jus Toys R Us. Since the fair's closed and my wife works next door, let's bring her some lunch. What ghetto fair PTR is complete without the Zipper? This is as close as it came to opening this weekend. Almost there! Wow...it was $2.79 an hour and a half ago. Taking the off-ramp like it's fricken' Watkins Glen! Note to self: the horizontal pedal on the left is your friend. And it's Elissa-friendly, bonus... That's my exit! The requisite self-portrait. Note to self: shut off the flash next time...your head is blinding! On the way...this was my second trip to the mall, at 11:00.
kennywood!007 Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 Interesting PTR. The Pharoh Ship looks like it goes pretty high. The Cliffhanger height looks disappointing...lol. Yay for Dragon Wagons!
Shavethewhales Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 Dude, the Chance Pharoah's Fury pwns all other pirate ship models. Bell's used to have one - It always raised our asses out of our seats.
ZipityDoDog Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 Nice pics, strange location. I would have gladly paid under 3 dollars for gas, but then I filled up yesterday with the cheap stuff at $3.45/gallon.
DenDen Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 I never quite got the point of the Egyptian theming on this ride. http://www.solarnavigator.net/ancient_egyptian_boat_building.htm
dandaman Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 Fall River has a Tim's? Awesome. That pharaoh ship thing is one of the few rides I remember being worthwhile at the Windsor Freedom Festival a few years back near Detroit, back when it was actually an "International" one. The only other one I remember was a Huss (I think) drop tower, which tells in itself that southern Ontario doesn't get out a lot.
Jew Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 I don't get what the big deal about a carnival being a parking lot is? It's pretty common...?
bobafett Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 They used to set up a traveling carnival like that at my local WalMart. Ugh, what a mess it was. And there is a McDonald's located right next to the WalMart so it really got ugly at times. They stopped doing it about 6 years ago, thank goodness.Evey once in awhile when I'm in Jersey with my sister, we see a carnival set up in a parking lot. And the fact that people actually go to them knocks my socks off. We take the kids if they beg us enoogh. HA! I love to torture my nieces and nephews!!!
