thrillrideseeker Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 "Fifteen hours after it struck a reef in the Greek isles, an evacuated cruise ship goes under" Here is a Video -> http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/?rn=49750&cl=2307016&ch=283293&src=www.yahoo.com I thought that was interesting! ~Matthew
robbalvey Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Well a 22,000 ton ship isn't really a "cruise ship" in the sense that most people would consider a cruise ship. Saying a 22,000 ton ship is a "cruise ship" is like saying that Old Town is a major Florida theme park. I think we've been on larger ferries! --Robb "The ship we did our most recent Photo TR from was 140,000 tons." Alvey
thrillrideseeker Posted April 6, 2007 Author Posted April 6, 2007 I was just going by what Yahoo said But you are right 22,000 tons is not that big of a ship compared to others! ~Matthew
robbalvey Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 (edited) Yeah, I kind of figured the media was just sensationalizing it by calling it a "cruise ship" because then everyone in their mind will picture one of those giant Royal Carribean or Carnival ships going down. Just like whenever you hear about some accident at a local carnival and they throw in "amusement park" and "theme park" words into the story! --Robb Edited June 22, 2020 by SharkTums
Xmeister Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Well even the Titanic was around 45,000-47,000 tons. Also the ship was once a ferry. It converted into a "cruise ship" and I think that is a term to be used lightly.
alpengeist04 Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Yea, I heard about this on the news. There were 128 people from the Raleigh area on board.
FlyingScooter Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 That ships weight is a about 4 tons less than the Edmond Fitzgerald.
verticalzero Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Titanic facts: http://library.thinkquest.org/C0119483/stats.htm The Greek ship was only 1/2 the size of Titanic. I would love to visit Titanic before she implodes on the sea floor.
thrillrideseeker Posted April 12, 2007 Author Posted April 12, 2007 ^ OMG I have never been to the Titanic DUH, but I went to this thing in Branson! It was a Titanic shaped building, and it had neat stuff from the Titanic in it. OMG it was so awsome you should so go to it! ~Matthew
verticalzero Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 I visited the Titanic Exhibition when it was at Chicago, a piece of hull was hanging from the celing which I touched... Got told off by a guard, but worth it. 2morrow is the 95th Anniversary of the Liner's sinking. Anyone got £80,000 to spare http://www.titanic-titanic.com/news_050407.shtml Branson USA is only a short 9 hour flight from England, any Theme Parks nearby which I can visit afterwards..?
borisdag Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Ok this news broke the DAY AFTER I booked my first ever cruise! YIKES! Here's hoping we'll have some pixie dust with us on our cruise since it's Disney.
thrillrideseeker Posted April 13, 2007 Author Posted April 13, 2007 Going on a crusie is awsome! You will have so much fun! There are so many things to keep you busy that you will not even think about what could go wrong Have a blast! ~Matthew
